    Best Solar Panels for Winter

Micro-inverters are a must for us, as some panels face East, some South East, and some South West. I wanted to smooth production over the day as there is no FIT. Also, at least some of the panels are more likely to see some sun straight on. ie a cloudy morning but sunny afternoon would get some...

    Hot water from PV

Enphase is an established American company operating for over 16 years. Hopefully, they will hang around. But you are right, companies come and go. I'm always wary of little-known entities.

It won't, along with oil. Too many people want it! People in for a big shock I'm afraid.

    Hot water from PV

My Enphase micro inverters are guaranteed for 20 years. Hopefully, they will last even longer. I also installed for environmental decisions initially. Looking like an inspired decision now..

    Hot water from PV

If you have £6k you can get maybe £60 interest a year. You'll generate a lot more than that in the way of electric from a £6k solar system. The solar system will last 20 years. What's £6k in your bank gonna be worth in 20 years with the inflation we have? Got to be one of the best investments at...

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

3.6kw panels with Enphase micro-inverters. Panels are in 3 arrays facing different directions to smooth out generation. Solic 200 immersion diverter. It has a 10 years back to base warranty if installed by an electrician. Our friendly electrician put it in whilst upgrading our Consumer Unit, so...

    Hot water from PV

Yeah. I totally agree. I know I'm not gonna get my wishes. We'll have nuclear with all its attendant problems and costs. The problem is, we've all become used to being profligate, especially with energy. Drive and fly everywhere, wear shorts and a t-shirt around the house in winter.:( My...

    Hot water from PV

No to nuclear. Solar is developing at breakneck speed. Higher efficiencies and lower costs. Lets reduce burning gas to the winter months. Oh, and make it green hydrogen and biogas that we burn.

    Best Solar Panels for Winter

Winter is bad news for solar here with us. Prior to solar we used around 10kwh of lecky per day. However, with just 3.6kw of solar and an immersion diverter we are averaging 6.6kwh Jan, 6.0kwh Feb, 4.8kwh Mar, 3.9kwh April of grid power per day. I often see that we are exporting power once the...

    Hot water from PV

As a self installer selling lecky back to the grid is not an option, so the immersion diverter is a no brainer. It's all a bit of a gamble, as who knows where energy prices are going? Will you still be getting a comparable payment for lecky vs cost of gas come next Autumn? Is it even a like for...

Reporting Unsafe or non-compliant electrical installation!

Seems to me, yet another example of highly paid civil servants delivering very little and confusing everyone. Meanwhile the skilled people have to put up with all the ******** they have to wade through. We have a civil service manager living next door. He keeps telling me how well paid he is. I...

Options when DNO says limit to zero export for a PV install

Cheers Binky. Will email the DNO and ask the question.

Solic 200 but still exporting some power.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. Wouldn't be surprised. Every little helps to increase their bill. Locked to prevent hi-jacking

Solic 200 but still exporting some power.

Immersion is 3kw and the tank needs heating. My top generation is around 2.5kw as my panels face 3 different directions. I'm inclined to think something is not quite right with the Solic or maybe the smart meter.

Options when DNO says limit to zero export for a PV install

Yep. That's the one. Cheers Binky. DNO had this model of inverter on the G99 application. But not the cert. Should they allow me to have this? They didn't say I could limit export. Just ' It's too much generation'. I should say they called me rather than confirmed by email.

Additional solar array and addition of a battery

I was told in our situation that an AC inverter would exceed our export limits. Send in a G99 application and they will model the implications and either approve, or tell you that you need to pay for upgrading their transformer if you wish to proceed.:(

Options when DNO says limit to zero export for a PV install

I should add that the Solis inverter has export limitation. However, yet to confirm G100 compliance.

Options when DNO says limit to zero export for a PV install

We have been denied an AC coupled inverter as it would exceed export limits. The inverter I intended to install was a Solis 3kw. The manufacturer still hasn't replied to my request confirming G100 compliance. If it is, should the DNO accept my application?

Solic 200 but still exporting some power.

Hi all.:). Just wondering about the above which I have fitted at ours. The unit is supposed to be zero export. My unit doesn't have the option of allowing any changes to this. I have seen pictures of units with switches to do this but mine doesn't have them. Since having our smart meter...

    DIY solar battery storage

Sounds interesting but I'd like something a bit more automatic. Be nice to be able to leave a heater on in the living room knowing that we wouldn't be drawing from the grid if the sun went in for a bit. Now wondering if a heat store might be worth installing to replace our hot water tank so...
