I haven't got another handy but if its belling out i suspect it is an internal fuse? I've tried taking it apart but i cant even get into it! Anyone have an idea on what...

    Which downlights are people using?

I went into the wholesalers yesterday and was told by a rep that it was to maintain the fire rating of the ceiling! I said that it is nothing to do with that and that one house is generally one fire compartment.  He'd never heard of that!  Still doesn't change my mind on what I want  to fit...

    Which downlights are people using?

That is exactly my point. A plasterboard ceiling is fire rated and by drilling lots of holes we needed to replace that  rating as there is a room above. That was my  understanding of it anyway. I have perhaps misunderstood but still think these fire rated fittings are the way to go and like was...

    Which downlights are people using?

Ok, so completely unnecessary! They have a decent warranty with them and have an excellent light output for 8w of electricity though

    Which downlights are people using?

I don't fit halogen at all anymore. If i was to fit something with a replaceable lamp i would still fit led.

    Which downlights are people using?

The led ones i mention in my first post can be covered in insulation.

    Which downlights are people using?

So why are most of us fitting them? They're quite a bit more expensive.

    Which downlights are people using?

My understanding was cutting a hole in plasterboard then makes fire rated down light necessary if its a ground floor install with rooms above. Not needed upstairs but with insulation in attics the new style ones can be buried which makes them the better choice?

    Which downlights are people using?

They have to be fire rated as they are in the kitchen

    Which downlights are people using?

Ideally i'd fit something with a replaceable lamp. Push fit connections speed up the install time considerably. Do the jcc ones with a replaceable lamp have pushfit.

    Which downlights are people using?

I've been fitting the enlite range of downlights' as they seem well made and are quick to install. They are about £18 inc vat per fitting. Anyone have any other recommendations?  Thanks Neil
