Reviews Of New All Metal Cu's

Is a garage unit considered domestic when the garage is remote to the house? If not then IP rated would be the order of the day as far as I'm concerned.

what is the difference between switch start and high frequency light fittings

Do switch start fluorescents cause strobing effects on the new type of computer monitors and TVs? I always thought that was the primary reason for fitting high frequency in offices with the old CRT technology - not sure that is still true.

Reviews Of New All Metal Cu's

Fitted my first metal CU (customer supplied) and was pleasantly surprised. BG 10 way dual RCD. Rear knockouts worked fine. A number of 20mm and 2 x 25mm knockouts top and bottom - none on the side. Handy level built in. Grommet strip provided - but would recommend supergluing in place. Nice...

    Rcd Testing

This was a nasty one! http://talk.electricianforum.co.uk/topic/28813-intermittent-time-delay-rcd-failure/

    Intermittent Time Delay Rcd Failure

No - as a caravan site avoiding TNCS - so all TT - Ze 56 ohms so not enough to trip the MCB.

    Intermittent Time Delay Rcd Failure

I fitted it less than 3 months before - and all working properly at the time.

    Intermittent Time Delay Rcd Failure

Had a pretty nasty fault at a caravan site. New caravan being put in place so the installers pulled out the hook up post (using a Land Rover or tractor I suspect) - and in doing so pulled the SWA sheath out of its gland - so live insulation cut through by the gland. Still earth contact on...

Running Radio / Aerial Cable Through A Switch?

From my old days as a radio amateur we used to have changeover relays for 144MHz which probably had a conductor path of around 15mm. On that basis I think you will get away with it! If I remember rightly MK switches tend to have a smaller footprint - normally don't like this but could play to...

    What's The Difference?

Just digging up the code 1 for no RCD on a TT system I can understand that by definition it's not code 1 but can understand why an electrician would put this as a code 1 to elevate it above a cracked switch. You can see a cracked switch - but without an RCD any faulty piece of equipment could...

    What's The Difference?

That's exactly what I'm talking about Dave! Just digging up the code 1 for no RCD on a TT system I can understand that by definition it's not code 1 but can alsonunderstand why an electrician would put this as a code 1 to elevate it above a cracked switch. You can see a cracked switch - but...

    What's The Difference?

When this forum was first set up it was the complete opposite of the Screwfix forum - supportive, fun, helpful - and when I was starting out on my own it was a lifeline. Now things seem to have changed - ask a question and if you don't know the answer you are incompetent. Pedantic, smug answers...

    Shower Wiring Quote

If it's Plymouth side I can give you a quote - but as has been said it depends on cable routing, length of run, access, whether there is a spare way on your consumer unit, RCD protection etc. My advice for electric showers is use a gas boiler if possible!!!!

    Control Gear - Head Banging

And make sure you follow the diagram exactly!!! Every version of these beasts seems to have a different wiring diagram so you may not be replacing like with like!

The... Er... Um ...brigade At The Trade Counter .

Wholesalers generally reward regular customers. I get the bulk price for what I use without the storage issues. My local wholesaler couldn't cope with bulk orders without notification due to limited stock  area.

The... Er... Um ...brigade At The Trade Counter .

"No proper electrician is going to go in and buy 9 sockets and 9 back boxes.  Those are staple items that I buy usually by the box of 30 or so, so I always have them." If you've got limited storage, run out of an estate car and your local Denmans is half a mile away it makes sense to get stuff...

    One Or Two Certificates?

NAPIT have a very handy EIC for a single circuit - one page only. Using this I find it easier to do the 2 certificates.

    Becoming A Electrical Engineer

    Eventually!

    Becoming A Electrical Engineer

As an electrician you are very portable. If you specialise as an engineer you will have to be where the work is. (I'm from an Electrical/Electronic Engineering background with OND/HNC/BSc) and I specialised to such an extent that there were only about 20 vacancies for my experience in the whole...

Electrical Backup For Domestic Hot Water

Like that idea - but not suitable in this case. Got this reply from Redring:- Hi The unit will not fill a bath, there is not a thermostat as the temperature is flow controlled, meaning in order to supply hot enough water for a bath, the flow rate would be so low that it would take ages to...
