    13A sockets for EVs

I think the resistor in a given stand alone charge cable used with untethered charging points determines current for the cable based on it's rating, either 16A or 32A. Beyond that it is PWM that "tunes" the current rate in Comms. between the car and charging point.

    13A sockets for EVs

Yes, Mine was moulded on, I just cut it off and replaced it with a heavy duty rubberized alternative. No sensor in my charger (MG) I suppose you'd have an issue with a unit that includes temp. sensing, but then the issue would be limiting current to a low level or turning off in the event of a...

    13A sockets for EVs

If the issue is the cheap, crappy, plug on the charger overheating, (as it often is) the issue will keep happening. Do you check and change out the plugs as well?

    13A sockets for EVs

It's really quite laughable, so it turns out our 13A sockets have never been up to being used at 13A beyond a 3 minute kettle boil. But it gets even worse, as no EV chargers with 13A plugs fitted even pull 13A, they top out at 10A, so some sockets aren't even up to 10A continuous! But... even...

    EV charger

Our local farmer always likes to say, it's really easy to turn your money into a million in farming, you just need to start with three!

    EV charger

No need to get rid of the oil industry, as you rightly say, we'll still need some of it. It just needs scaling down massively to a sensible size to supply oil for product manufacture and lubrication, but we have to stop burning the stuff en-masse. Workers always lose jobs when technology moves...

So will the ICE be banned or not?

Its worse than that, only a very select few get to go to Switzerland, the vast majority of us lack the financial resourses, or mental capacity to give consent, as its usually too late by the time the severity of most conditions is known. :(

So will the ICE be banned or not?

Unlikely, if you're burning anything in an engine, you're always going to create local pollution, CO2 neutral or not. Also, cost wise, it won't be able to compete with EV either, at least not for cars and light goods. The efficiency of an ICE is an order of magnitude less than EV, you just can't...

Only if you actually drive like one ;)

So will the ICE be banned or not?

Oddly, as a Tesla Model S owner, I find I actually agree with you to a point. Since the Model 3 became available a very large number of mid ranking BMW car drivers have moved over to the brand and some have brought their obnoxious driving habits with them! :ROFLMAO:

So will the ICE be banned or not?

I agree with you, and as in your case, running a nicely kept 15 year old car is perfectly acceptable in my book. It will be a while yet before older, lower cost, decent range EVs work thier way down to cater for a broader demographic of affordability. This is fine for now and I think the ban on...

    Backwards step?

Interesting interpretation, so if I'm understanding your take correctly, your point is that due to losses, the actual usable energy is somewhat less than 100% of that generated ? So in your opinion, how do you think electricity generation from renewable sources should be described?

So will the ICE be banned or not?

The first Leaf only had a range of 80 or so miles at best to begin with. Then most early Leafs were used incorrectly by legacy thinking on batteries. Owners would charge them up to 100% after each use thinking this was best practice, as it would have been if you were dealing with good old lead...

    Backwards step?

If indeed the EV owner is running on renewable energy, either solar or wind generated, then the definition is correct as the generation source is renewable. Of course the particular "batch" for want of a better word of energy used at any given time has gone. If you are referring to the push to...

    EV charger

No I'm not, I'm arguing the entire build, fuelling and final recycling of a given EV including all associated costs for production and transport of a given fuel type, compared to a Diesel is way less polluting by an order of magnitude. There is vast, scientific research on this backing up my...

    EV charger

Just the one showing how over a 20 year use period an EV is more polluting overall than a Diesel will do. Seriously, because I'd like to see if I really am as wrong and deluded as steptoe thinks I am. I'd love to see his source including workings for that corker. Here's one of my many sources...

MSM overload eh? Easy to tell who you are from that as well, back to your conspiracy theory riddled worldview you go, I'm not engaging with any more nutters, thanks :)

Hmm... now that sounds a lot like crony capitalism!
  19. P

    Backwards step?

Good point, It is correct as it refers to completed infrastructure that generates 100% of power from an ongoing, self renewing source such as wind or solar, rather than the none renewable alternative that needs to burn something in a boiler or furnace once, then you need to use more and continue...
