    EV charger

You must mean cobalt, some does come from dubious sources and there is a little bit, used once, in an EV battery. It's used in all refined road fuel that you burn for the life of your car. I just stated an EV was cleaner than ICE cars, this is a proven fact, not that it's environmentally...

So will the ICE be banned or not?

There is a handshake protocol and pulse width modulation signal, or nothing will happen, power on or not.

    Backwards step?

Oh come on, that was quite funny, hardly a personal insult! I won't dignify the other nonsense with a reply, as I can't believe you can't grasp how the grid works and how consumers are matched to a given generation type. Enough already, I'm still wasting my time with this?!
  4. P

    EV charger

You really do, If you're going to make an extraordinary claim that building and fuelling an EV is dirtier than a Diesel over 20 years, you can't just pull that out of your bottom, where is your source?, and it needs to include emissions from drilling, refining and transporting the fuel source as...
  5. P

    Backwards step?

Nope, They self generate 100% renewable energy and feed into the grid, this is matched against tariff subscribers. Another of your made up "facts". Anyway, enough, I'm not responding to you anymore on the topic, enjoy living in the past, driving your Diesel 600 miles without stopping to prove a...

    EV charger

OK, I'll agree we're unlikely to see eye to eye on this, going nowhere. Do you see how you are blinkered too though, picking your own biased anti EV "facts"? Regarding these "facts" can you provide your sources? Let's see where you've got 'em from!
  7. P

    Backwards step?

In order... Those figures are way off, Since when where VW group companies bastions of honesty? lol!! I don't ever waste money, I'm a tight Yorkshireman! You're just not up to speed on how far they've come it seems. I'm not off grid, don't even have solar, just buy my electricity from a 100%...

    EV charger

I know I might be wasting my time here, but just in case steptoe is open to some more honest up to date facts, if not others will find them useful... https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/lifetime-carbon-emissions-electric-vehicles-vs-gasoline-cars-2021-06-29/...
  9. P

    Backwards step?

I've been involved in EV's since 2007. Back in 2008 I built my own. I actually know exactly what I'm talking about on the subject and everything you're spouting about EV's, from carbon footprint of manufacture compared to ICE vehicles, to battery life and recyclability, is utterly incorrect...
  10. P

    EV charger

Oh, ignore the luddites, if you're buying a new van now, based on your annual mileage, an EV is a no brainer, you'll love it. :)
  11. P

    Backwards step?

Oddly I agree with your first sentence, at least until "piece of ****" onwards, when you seem to revert to drivel and untrue nonsense! I think I'm getting the measure of you now. Your "that guy", the one every forum has, aren't you? ;) Oh what fun...
  12. P

    EV charger

My electricity is 100% renewable matey ;) Also, for the record, even an EV running via coal powered electricity generation only creates 1/3 of onboard engine pollution. I bought my Model S because it's absolutely awesome, the fact it saves me over £3500 a year to run over my last Petrol car and...
  13. P

    EV charger

Nope, certainly not if you're buying or leasing new anyway. If you charge at home nightly, unless you are doing huge daily mileages, you're not going to be charging away from home very often at all, and properly set up, overnight home charging can be dirt cheap. Breaking down, repair costs...
  14. P

    EV charger

You can charge that van for 4 hours nightly at 7.5p kWh if you can use an Octopus Go tariff. So that's about 26kW net after charging losses. At 3 miles per kW used, that gives you 78 miles or so per night at 5p, so savings can be a lot higher than your figures!
  15. P

So will the ICE be banned or not?

Well... as of the end of the month, all EV charging points sold have to have the capacity to monitor and save records of energy usage for at least 12 months, along with the ability to transmit this information on demand to the authorities, so read into that what you will... ;) I'm just glad I...

So will the ICE be banned or not?

Edit, as already covered on reading the thread!

    Automatic Gates cable question

Hmmm.... In that last picture I'm seeing what looks like plastic stuffing glands in that galv box. Assuming the cable is SWA as it should to be in that environment, how has the armour been dealt with? My other concern would be what is the earthing arrangement? Gate posts are obviously set into...
  18. P

    Unconventional termination of SWA

I've already conceded ;)  I'm starting to remember the other reasons other than I stated in my post above that I was glad to see the back of the profession!
  19. P

    Unconventional termination of SWA

I think we need to draw this to a close. My only argument was that in some specific domestic only instances were plastic consumer units were used, treating a smaller SWA cable leaving the CU as you would terminate a concentric could make a neater job than the rather industrial type of gland...

    Unconventional termination of SWA

OK, in order, In the use cases I've stated,  in reality, barring a violent attack on the enclosure, this would not be an issue, in such an attack, I'd firstly be more worried about the T&E's that have no such strain prevention. Fault current, fair enough, but I find it hard to believe...
