    Visual inspection ???

I know it's late to the thread but i've just been sent one of these (done in April 2018) and I can't believe it's an official document. Any nic members care to comment? It's not a BS7671 form... The completed one i've been sent all looks very proper, with C2 & C3 observations and a summary...

    PDF Certs

I got that it's for your hard work, it's just that the system says I'm not permitted to have it! :o   I'm an excel fan as it's more customisable and adaptable; I find it easier to move around the screen as well. But, it doesn't look as nice as pdfs, desktop or others!

    PDF Certs

Why thank you. Only, it says there's a charge, and I'm "not permitted to download the file"!! Any thoughts?! Also, do you have an excel version?

    PDF Certs

Can you share a link to them? As the only ones I can find are 17th.... I've been using pdf certs for a while, tried napit's desktop which is nice but not flexible enough for me! thanks for your work!

Surge protection, SPDs and LiVE products

Thanks for that nod to the OP. In 37 replies on this thread, yours gets closest to almost answering any of my four questions! Do you know what makes/models of SPD sold? Their website seems to only list BG and Schneider....

    Cross-section area of MIMS sheath

good rule of thumb to know, thank you. not quite, according to the table on Andy's link. Pyro/Mineral insulated is higher than PVC but only a bit as I read it? They say 10mm mims, carries 69A bare, 77A covered. But from appendix four in 7671, it does say 77A in 4G1A and a whopping 96A in...

    Cross-section area of MIMS sheath

Does anyone know the cross-sectional area of the sheath of mineral insulated cable? (I still call it MIMS). I've hunted all over the place, especially in section 543, and can't find a figure. I've a vague memory of calcs for SWA armouring, but also can't find that.... There's lots of 10mm MIMS...

Surge protection, SPDs and LiVE products

Back to the OP though, I asked four questions and so far had useful discussion but no answers. A reminder: Q1 - what SPDs are you fitting? Q2 - Why would a board need more than one SPD? Q3 - Why are 'LiVE' products so much cheaper? Q4 - What are the main differences between the manufacturers...

Surge protection, SPDs and LiVE products

I'm getting confused. Beama expands the 443.4 saying "This means that the electrical installation designer should complete a documented assessment for single dwelling units to determine if the total value of the electrical installation and the equipment connected therein necessitates the cost...

Surge protection, SPDs and LiVE products

it's very very unlikely that a dwelling will have no electronics at all is it? One washing machine or tv costs more than an SPD. SPDs in the 17th were done by risk assessment but now, if you don't do a risk assessment, you have to fit them.

    SBS ?

He's not posted for a while but on his website there is a Jan 19 pricelist so I'm sure he's still trading 😀

Surge protection, SPDs and LiVE products

That's so sad. I wonder why that is? I put SPD as well as surge in the title to help the thread show up in searches (don't get me started on this sites annoying search gestapo!). Fascinating how your brain deciphers TLAs isn't it! It's kinda been done in our heads for years tho, right? 😉...

Surge protection, SPDs and LiVE products

I've been baffled by the responses in various counters this week to my simple question of "What SPDs are you selling most now?" I thought i'd ask on here, what are people fitting? As I understand the 18th, unless you do a complicated risk assesment that says otherwise, pretty much any...

    Kewtech Calibration Offer

Has anyone used Kewtech's calibration services - ExpressCal? I got an email last week with a 50% off 'black friday' offer valid til the 30th! Thought i'd sound out the forum before taking the plunge and letting them pickup all my bits and bobs. Also, hope it can benefit others...

    'modern' domestic alarm

I'm after recommendations for modern domestic burglar alarms please. Either to replace the hardware on the ends of an existing wired system, or to install from scratch one that links in with smart home tech. This is not my forte as I haven't fitted an alarm for decades, and the last ones I did...

New build Consumer Unit in kitchen cupboard

Have you offered them the Schneider Easy9? It could be fitted semi-recessed and they could have the front magnetic picture made to match the wallpaper and be quite inconspicious! https://www.schneider-electric.co.uk/en/product-range-presentation/63125-easy9%2B/ Or there's always Hager's...

    Nest? Hive? Anything else?

I find Honeywell very user friendly - especially the LoT (line of text) devices that have whole words to help! Their manuals are comprehensive too. I've fitted a lot of their wireless and wired devices. Wireless has the advantage of being able to move the stat to the room you're in rather than...
