Solar strings on different elavation levels and number of panels allowed

So what's the idea re West facing panels, and inverter start-up? The lowest start-up voltage I've seen for an inverter was 70v, most are 120-150v. So as Binky says, 4 west facing panels aren't going to start an average inverter in anything but full summer sun. So are you thinking using...

Adding a battery to a hybrid inverter

Sounds like an essential bit of kit

I'll just keep my fingers crossed, and leave things like that to clever people like you.

Which hybrid inverter for installation by an not MCS certified electrician which works with octopus agile?

Ha ha ha, you're showing your age there John, Ford Escort. Lol

    Volts but no Amps

Hey guys, Hopefully a quicky. If my panels have a high voltage, usually 350v, and have got very low Amps, does this mean the system has just shut down, but if I were to add a load, it would start producing again? (See pic) This usually happens when my batteries are full and we have either no...

Which hybrid inverter for installation by an not MCS certified electrician which works with octopus agile?

Wow, how much! As John said above, the Victron community is huge, and they are meant to be very easy to sort out yourself should any software issues arise. I do like the sound of them, but they are double the price of pretty much everything else.

Adding a battery to a hybrid inverter

That sounds like a cool little gadget, an active balancer. So does that then stay on the system, you don't remove it once the pack is balanced? I'll assume from what my supplier says, that I have an active BMS. My batteries are made by a company called Pytes, and they just look like Pylontech...

How do two inverters work together?

I obviously can't watch them at all times, but when I have checked the app, they are always charging with similar power, there are always a few watts between them, but as you say, they must vary this, because they always seem to reach 99-100% within a short time of each other, and when I've...

    Solar sensor placement

Oh bloody hell, I still haven't tried this. I need to set an alarm in my phone to remind me.

    FOGSTAR DISCOUNT

So worldly wise rules out 99.99r% of people then. Lol Ah ok, so it's not a database of independent testing that you can go to. That's a shame, I'd like to know the (supposed) quality of my batteries.

    FOGSTAR DISCOUNT

Yeh I'd definitely agree, but it's a really bad one that casts doubt on the quality of their own product. How do you find out the quality of cells used, and is this something that can be done for all batteries?

Adding a battery to a hybrid inverter

Yeh, I suppose it all depends on the BMS. But I'd definitely make the assumption that as the BMS is there to stop issues with batteries over/under charging, then they would balance them over time.

    Solar sensor placement

The 45w (actually 44w) is on his post he made at 1522. Yeh last time we discussed the 200w limit you advised me then to alter the export limit, and I've got to admit I'd totally forgotten about it. The reason I know about the 200w limit though, is my supplier told me when I was whining at him...

    Solar sensor placement

    Lol, we've already discussed it.

Which hybrid inverter for installation by an not MCS certified electrician which works with octopus agile?

I assumed that was implied by the previous paragraph. But yeh, if you don't want to export.

How do two inverters work together?

What, to make it an even split? If so, yes if I physically move one of the 5 to be next to the 3s, but as the inverters sort everything out between them, there's no point now.

Adding a battery to a hybrid inverter

That's interesting Binky. Everyone goes on about balancing batteries, but my supplier said it doesn't matter, the BMS will balance them itself. I thought they were talking rubbish after everyone stressing how important balancing is. So that's really good to know, as I want to increase my...
