    Not so green after all?

I don't get the voltages floating too high argument. Most if not all inverters now will progressively reduce output if voltage rises beyond a threshold. Also don't get the 30% back feed argument either, All transformers can work equally well forwards or backwards it makes no difference to them...

Require more than 2 MPPT's, can I parallel inverters.

With Hybrid systems If they are not specifically set up in parrallel mode, I found you can get problems with one battery charging the other and vice versa oscillating like that and wasting battery cycles plus the inefficiency. If they are just inverters without battery they would work fine.

Require more than 2 MPPT's, can I parallel inverters.

Almost certainly. Not familiar with Growatt but check the manuals first by downloading. Solax hybrid inverter manual state that all parralleled inverters must be the same generation number and firmware must be the same version. It also states that you should have the same number of batteries on...

New member SMA 5kw in France

Having said that 5kw is not going to heat the pool very much, a more efficient way would be to divert the underfloor heating water from the heat pump system in the summer to a heat exchanger in the pool. That way you get three to four times the amount of heat out. Probably more complicated than...

New member SMA 5kw in France

Exactly. The swimming pool is almost an infinite sink for heat compared to 5kw. Use a solar diverter. I designed and manufacture the SolaControla solar PV diverter, and have made bespoke 3 phase versions up to 50kw special order. But you could use 3 separate single phase alternative brands .

    Solax inveter tripping MCB

All of the above, but also consider a type C MCB ( of the correct rating) to avoid nuisance tripping.

Meter Readings and Billing - Active power or Apparent power ?

Sorry I used real in the mathematical sense ie real and imaginary components of the complex number that described the current or power in AC circuits. Sorry to confuse the issue!

Meter Readings and Billing - Active power or Apparent power ?

Yes real power is the same as active power, it's the in phase or resistive power.

Meter Readings and Billing - Active power or Apparent power ?

Sorry I meant real power, not actual, as in the current in phase with the voltage, reactive power is the current 90 degrees out of phase with the voltage. Total power would be the square root of the sum of the squares of real and reactive power.

Meter Readings and Billing - Active power or Apparent power ?

My understanding is that residential meters bill on actual power. The supplier could charge an excess for reactive power for large commercial customers, but i don't think they do for small/medium commercial. Well not for me anyway!

Hybrid inverter - charging battery from grid query

Yes AC to battery is inherent in a hybrid inverter. There are some so called retrofit AC battery inverters that just don't have PV inputs, but you can always fit a hybrid to do the same job, they may be marginally more expensive, but allow you the future expansion to add more PV. Hybrid costs...

New PV install question, Solax inverter setup

If the meter/CT is set to CT and no CT input it will read the "meter" as 0. If the meter/CT is set to meter you can enable/disable it in the settings menu. So it is possible to have no meter connected and no error will be displayed displayed via either method. I am assuming the settings menu is...

FIT 3Kwp System from 2014. Should I be adding batteries?

Correct, and grid side of your existing FIT generation meter. It is not commonly known, I think, that a Hybrid inverter can be used in an AC coupled battery system. You either do not connect the PV inputs or can add extra PV(but not your existing FIT PV!) to them at any point. Hybrid inverters...

    Optimal distance between batteries

Not familiar with the Growatt system. However two inverter battery systems can react incorrectly due to the two sets of grid sensors (CT or meter) working on different thresholds of import/export. Ie one can think it's importing but the other thinks it's exporting. Even if the difference in...

    Optimal distance between batteries

You can add AC (or Hybrid as discussed above) inverter battery systems to existing FIT (assuming on a deemed 50% export basis) systems. You are just using part of your deemed export quite legitimately. What is more debatable is any change to the existing FIT system by adding batteries before the...

    Optimal distance between batteries

Obviously grid-batt works on most hybrid inverters (for example charging overnight) but was not sure it could act as a Retrofit AC inverter does too ie if you leave off the PV inputs it acts exactly as an AC retrofit unit utilising excess exportable power. Ditto with PV connected. The takeaway...

    Optimal distance between batteries

One thing I discovered is that any excess PV power exported whether by hybrid or AC inverters (actually any source eg windmill etc) will be used to charge any other inverter/ batteries whether Hybrid or Retrofit AC provided on the same grid circuit of course. Seems the hybrid inverter works...

    Optimal distance between batteries

The Solax inverters can be configured in master slave mode (up to several slaves in fact) if all the same generation. Not quite set this up properly yet. One unit controls the other inverter(s) and all batteries via the CAN bus links, but I think you need equal battery string lengths for the all...

    Optimal distance between batteries

Actually I have or will have 12 batteries in a row! Four on one X3 hybrid 10kw and eight on another X3 hybrid 10kw with BMS box. It's just 4+4 now, I have the extra batteries but haven't connected them yet (waiting for more Sun). Am away from the site so will photo when back. It's a bit work in...

    Optimal distance between batteries

PS just read MHarv post about floor standing. As I understand that, alternate batteries front-front, back to back alternately. The short leads will then reach. But things to watch out. 1/not sure if it's recommended re thermal separation. 2/ the weight of potentially 6 batteries like that would...
