    Extractor Fan and Switch

I hope the removed the sockets ?? You should have a certificate for the electrical work carried out and it is notifiable to building control. If you don't have any of this I would either get them back to do a proper job or (ideally) get another competent person to come and check it out (if you...

Sudden increase in usage after electrical work

You mention a “whole house mounting system”. I take it this shows real time usage? When it is peaking in the evenings - what is the consumption then (KWhs)? An extra 600 units a month is around a constant 0.75 kw 24/7. That must be traceable via turning off circuits at the CSU to see when...

    3 port valve

ended up putting a relay in the grey ("hot water off") cable activated by the "heating on" cable. Solved the back feed to the boiler and also means when not in use the 3 port valve goes back to its rest position.

    3 port valve

Thanks special locations, that's very helpful. I did disconnect the tank stat & did an IR across the terminals and was ok but am going to investigate that a bit more this morning. Also disconnecting the LR on the boiler showed it was coming from the wiring centre. it only appears to be present...

    3 port valve

Thanks Dave, I will give that a go. the system has been working fine for the last 8 years, not sure why it should change now🤷‍♂️

    3 port valve

Hi, got an issue with a Y plan system. after the heating has stopped calling for heat I am getting around 30v on the CFH at the boiler - its coming from the orange on the zone valve and also back feeding the white (CH on) with the same voltage. it only does it with the HW off (so 230v down the...

    Brother E550W heat shrink tubing

I always use the copy tapes, can’t say I’ve ever had a problem with them

    Brother E550W heat shrink tubing

I think you would probably need 17mm heat shrink for the 2.5mm and 11.7mm for the 1.00mm

    Sufficient earthing advice ?

The incoming gas and water would need to be assessed to determine whether they would need bonding (less than 22k ohms to earth and they will need a 10mm bond). As there is only a 6mm cpc I guess you would have to take the bond back to the incoming and create a MET at that point. I alway find it...

    PV1 6mm cable rating

depends on the length of the cable - you would have to do a volt drop calculation to work out the capacity

A little confused on wiring diagram for heating.

I must admit that I would sleeve a core at 2 way lighting etc, but have never sleeved control wires in a heating system 🤔

A little confused on wiring diagram for heating.

It's a wiring diagram showing how to wire the UFH wiring centre not the boiler - as you say, different boilers have different wiring systems. This just demonstrates the use of a " volts free" system or a 230v system at the boiler. But as you say, can be a tad confusing for anyone not familiar...

Is this possibly caused by poor earthing?

as previously said, a personal recommendation is always best, if you can't find one try popping into a local dedicated electrical wholesaler (rather than an allrounder like screwfix etc)- they will be dealing with electricians all day long and should be able to recommend someone reliable and...

    Dimmable downlights too bright

if you get a varilight MJP120 dimmer module you will be able to adjust to min & max levels to suit your requirements.

30 min job  so you think he could do 16 of these jobs in a day including assessing the job, getting parts, travelling, invoicing, vat returns, training, etc etc which all comes into a part of "work" when self employed. I would think he would have to allow 2 hours to do job with...

6mm in a shallow back box!! why do people make life difficult for themselves?

    Bi directional protection devices

Good helpful video, however, by replacing an RCBO with a MCB & RCD would only be satisfactory if the RCD is bidirectional 🤷‍♂️

    EICR issues

Is the flat a long term let or a holiday let? if its a holiday let then the requirement for the smoke / heat detectors are now a requirement in England (not if its a long term let). The bathroom light I would always install IPX4 or above, even if its over 2.25mts high - "external influences"...

GOV.UK advice on Rented properties for smoke alarms.

last year the home office issued a paper "A guide to making your small paying- guest- accommodation safe from fire" ( I assume for small properties not small guests ) which does state that a D1/ LD1 system is required. This could be what aico are referring to??
