would a fluke 1652 test meter tell me where the problem lies if I tested the insulation and the continuity ??? and possibly the earth loop from shower terminals

it was fitted by qualified people but is 5+ years old, forgot to mention about 6/8 months ago it started to trip out the mcb on the odd occasion if it had been on for a while.

smells burning but cant see anything at all and have done a visual inspection of all the shower.

What could be the cause of smoke coming from the top of the shower unit when it is in use, I have temporarily disabled the shower, does it mean a new shower or could it be a simple fix.
