    Home Storage & Solar continued

Thanks Jimbo. That looked a pretty good option untill I spotted the minimum order qty of 6 panels. Best new option I've found so far is tradesparky.com but they have a delivery charge of £150+vat (for up to 50 panels). Anyway, I don't want to hijack the thread. Sorry.

    Home Storage & Solar continued

Many thanks for this, it may have just saved me an expensive mistake. Can anyone suggest a supplier for 4 JA Solar 455W panels to extend my existing system? Ideally that I could collect from to save any large delivery costs. Within reach of the Midlands area.

Thanks Binky. I'll add a note to the diagram to make it clearer.

    Thoughts please on circuit design

My installer showed a string DC isolator on his diagram of my system, but the string cables plug straight into my inverter (Solis hybrid, 2 strings). When queried, he says the isolator on his diagram is the one on the inverter it's self. Is this acceptable do you think?

    Solar immersion optimiser fitted

My guess is that the simpler diverters were designed before hybrid inverters and batteries were common place and when the "have your cake and eat it" FIT systems were installed. My Solic200 certainly appears to trigger by small amounts very often. Pretty much every time the inverter is...

    Solar immersion optimiser fitted

Yes this took lots of thinking about at strange times of day before I even tried it. A second opinion would be extremely welcome. (As would any thoughts of downsides that convince me I really ought to remove it again.)

    Solar immersion optimiser fitted

I had a similar but not identical issue with Solis hybrid and Solic200. What would happen was this. Solic would detect a minor overshoot of export as inverter settled after a load change (say kettle clicked off). Solic would grab this very fast and direct it to immersion. Next, Inverter sees...

Please help identify this DC power connector/name/size

It looks like you have your solution, but just FYI the power plug in the rear of the mains gro egg also contains at least the temperature sensor, maybe more. My guess is that this is to keep the sensor away from any heat generating components in the egg it's self. Sensor is the black dot by...

    Electric Vans - Range

I think there are plenty of potential issues. But the concept is interesting. Looks like you have the option to buy the battery with the car, not use swapping and charge it as any other ev. Or pay far less for the car and lease the battery. Swapping gives the option to switch to a light battery...

    Solar PV vs Grid

What surprised me but is very obvious once you see it, is that having batteries fills in all the dips in power as clouds move across the panels. The dip is significant. Without batteries, if your household load is being supplied from the panels and the sun goes in a bit, supply often dips...

Which type of inverter for 8.5kW East-West PV system 3phase or 1phase ?

If half his panels are on each roof then they can't both produce full power at the same time because when the sun is centred on one roof it's oblique to the other. So isn't the limiting factor the max voltage that each MPPT can take? Assuming one MPPT per roof.

    Pre order battery's

My panels are on two roofs. One faces SW and the other SE. So I get quite a long day of Solar power but I never get a middle of the day peak because when sun is highest, both strings are at a 45deg angle to it. I'm tempted to have another couple panels added to each roof to raise the peak kw...

    Pre order battery's

If it helps, these are my numbers for August. Very similar system. In the Midlands.

Best investments to leverage the output of a small 2.3kWh PV array to reduce household running costs?

Note on hot water diverters: Diverting 1kWh of solar to heat my water saves me 5.5p of gas. If it is exported to grid I get 5.5p for it. But if it is used to charge my battery and I consume it as electricity later, that saves me 21.5p.

question on power usage following a new PV installation

After that go to Device and click on the serial number of your inverter. In this view you can select all sorts of parameters to show on a graph.

question on power usage following a new PV installation

On the web browser based view you can see all this too. But it's not immediately obvious where to look. In Plant Overview click to the right of the green dot that shows your plant is on line. I assume here, we're choosing which plant we want to see, but of course we only have one.

    Solar PV system

As said you don't have to use your existing supplier for payment for power fed into the grid. But you do need the system to have been installed by an MCS installer. I have a good fixed tarrif until Dec 2023 so have decided to stay with a single 24hr tarrif. I get 5.5p/kWh from Scottish power...
