can the house draw from solar and battery at the same time using a hybrid invertor

Sorry, that was your question. No the batteries never take anything from the grid. (Oh, just remembered, it sometimes takes a very brief charge from the grid. From observation it looks like if it spots that batteries have gone to 19% charge in the middle of the night it tops them up to 20%) I...

can the house draw from solar and battery at the same time using a hybrid invertor

OK, sky just got brighter so solar generation has gone up, house is running from panels and batteries are charging. Sorry it's not the best photo. But here panels are producing 1.55Kw, batteries are charging at 0.9Kw and we're consuming the rest. (Often the numbers don't quite tally with each...

can the house draw from solar and battery at the same time using a hybrid invertor

Hi Andy1733 It's fully automatic. The batteries only receive a charge from the solar panels, they effectively "mop up" every scrap of excess production whenever panels are producing more than we're consuming. Then they fill in the gaps when solar production is less than we're using. On a bad...

can the house draw from solar and battery at the same time using a hybrid invertor

As a user, here is my experience. I'm at home all the time and had 4.5kwp of panels, a Solis 3.6Kw hybrid inverter and 4.8Kwh of Pylontech lipo batteries installed in February. Every morning the battery starts empty. (Actually 20% state of charge to look after the batteries). All draw is...

    Hot water from PV

My gas price is low, because by some fluke I signed up for 2 year fixed tarrifs last November. Prices were a little higher than other companies variable tarrifs. But for once in my life a gamble appears to have paid off. :)

    Hot water from PV

Having had a new PV system installed, along with batteries and a diverter to heat water with any excess, I now question the economics of the water heating part. Heating water with gas costs me about 5.5p a kWh. So every spare kWh I get from the solar PV only saves me that much. The fee I've...

    What transformer should I use?

PS. I'm not talking about a replaceble fuse, but possibly a fusible resistor soldered into the board, a self resetting one or other current limiting design built into the electronics. Just food for thought. That's all.

    What transformer should I use?

That's correct and will work fine, probably for ever. But the power supply should be designed so that in the event of a fault in the modem or beyond, an internal low voltage DC fuse would blow rather than modem components getting hot or even starting a fire. Just the same as protection back...

    What transformer should I use?

I would expect that the supplies which came with the modems are internally fused to suit all expected fault scenarios in that particular modem. I would be wary of connecting a power supply capable of more current.

    Hi from new PV homeowner

Thanks binky, yeah that's what my recent tests are beginning to show too, sadly. Changes will be made one way or another. Many thanks for the link, I hadn't found anything like that.

    Hi from new PV homeowner

It does on the face of it, but it's a well known technique even if it is a bit of a luxury. There are articles on the www showing the pros and cons. Some even say they can save money. The alternative is a long wait for hot water, along with the waste of water and waste of heat in the pipes...

    Hi from new PV homeowner

Thanks again. Yep, monitoring gas, electric and hot water temp has revealed a decent saving I can make. (But haven't yet sorted). I have a hot water loop and circulating pump. Because we're in a large bungalow with a granny annexe and some hot water taps are a long way from the tank, the loop...

    Hi from new PV homeowner

I do, with a Solic200 diverter too. Although that doesn't kick in until mid afternoon after the battery is full but I need hot water earlier in the day. I'm also wondering how relevant the diverter is considering the SEG rate I'll be getting for exporting electricity is pretty much the same...

    Hi from new PV homeowner

Hi Murdoch, thanks for replying. Yes I do have the WiFi option and seem to be poring over graphs and stats every day. In the last day or so of this rapidly changing weather, I've hit a peak that matches the installed capacity of 4.55kwp, but only very briefly. Prior to that there have been...

    Hi from new PV homeowner

Hello, new here (obviously). I've recently had a PV system installed and wish to make the very most of it. I'm a retired broadcast systems engineer, so while not qualified for domestic electrics, I do like to understand everything in my home, down to the last detail. My system is, I guess...
