Please help me understand my light circuit

And don't forget the lights wired wrong fight from the start. More than once I have found a light fitting where the neutral has been switched and the L is always on.

Can anyone ID this National Grid cable?

If you want advice from the forum post the plan you have been given, suitably redacted to hide your location.

Can anyone ID this National Grid cable?

It is not national grid you want, but your local DNO who I think for Cornwall is Western Power distribution. The cables coming down the pole are likely to be low voltage (240V) supply. I think, though your pictures are not really showing the top of the pole, that the high voltage lines to the...

    EV charging lead

I wonder how many EV owners only use the granny charger and think that is a proper EV charging setup?

Need help in identifying live wire for LED light

That's a crude and simple version of the normal triac based phase angle firing dimmer, but minus any RFI suppression etc. If as we suspect the wires to your LED are in fact DC than this will NOT work.

Need help in identifying live wire for LED light

Quite possibly neither, if it is connected to some sort of control box, it is likely to be DC.

High bills since installing storage heaters

New Gen storage heaters use a combination of off peak stored heat and real time daytime electric to top them up. they may be more comfortable and less prone to running out of heat than old storage heaters but they won't be cheaper. For the price you paid you missed a golden opportunity so swap...

Additional PV not on a FIT - how to deal with conflict

Under the old FIT you got paid for "deemed export" which was assumed to be half what you generated unless you had an export meter. How does that sit with having a smart meter AND being paid for export under what I think is called SEG? Is there not a confilct? That is even before you install...

Luminaire missing cover C2 or C3 out of reach?

We argue about coding this, but don't bat an eyelid about a BC or ES fitting which of course anyone can poke a finger onto a liver terminal without any tools.

    Radio Teleswitch Service

Yes the ASHP works well here, it got to -12 just over a week ago and not above 0 for 2 weeks. but we run low temperature under floor heating. the ASHP still managed to heat the hot water tank to 48 degrees. Like the discussions above, for a property with storage heaters and no heating...

    Radio Teleswitch Service

All that changed since you saw a big black box called a "radio tele switch" is electronics got smaller and became built into dual rate meters. So they too will stop working if the signal stops. I believe they would continue working on an internal timer if they did not receive the signal but...

My supplier has told me my meter installation is illegal, how do I rectify ?

It gets worse. So the builder has created a "plasterboard tent". He has just lined the inside of an old house with plasterboard, with no insulation, no sealing of voids so as you have noted, cold outside air is free to circulate between the walls of the house and the plasterboard tent. I bet...

My supplier has told me my meter installation is illegal, how do I rectify ?

There is no easy way to say this. Both your builder and your kitchen fitter are idiots. There is no way either of them should have boxed in the supply head and meter like that. The resolution is remove a big chunk of the kitchen, rip out the sections of the wall that are in the way, pay the...

    Help regarding immersion wiring

I would add, what I did not like about these dual immersions with a "bath / sink" switch is the switch did switch the L to either of the 2 different heating elements, but because the thermostat was only ever single pole, the thermostat was in the common neutral connection. But that is the way...

    Help regarding immersion wiring

No, the neutral was never switched in these A/B switches.

Sudden increase in usage after electrical work

You are suggesting there is an immersion heater, heating a now unused tank. If so it would either have reached temperature and cut off, so it's usage would only be every now and then to make up for heat loss from the tank. That would not account for the extra usage. Or the tank would be...

Help! Oven keeps tripping circuit breaker!

I gave up using the pyrolitic cleaning on my oven after I noticed the oven door surround was starting to go out of shape after one use. It really does heat the oven up to a ridiculously high temperature. Instead i bought some industrial oven cleaner does a far better job than any of the...

An old, suitably large glove sometimes works as well.
