    Earth leakage

I did it out of curiosity, I was about to turn items on to load up the board and get a max demand and with no loads on I got 150-170mA on Earth. (I know I don’t need to clamp Earth when doing max demand, I just stuck in on there to see if I was getting anything) What I can’t understand is when...

    Farmers eh?

The NFU aren’t pushing for it but they are more expensive like 3-4 thousand a year more expensive 🙈 however the insurance brokers that are pushing it have told us that anything insured over 1 mil is automatically required to have it so is the NFU under insuring property’s? Or is it because they...

    Earth leakage

The only thing that I could think of that would have largeish capacitors would be the VFD for the new vacuum pump but it hasn’t been powered up yet.

    Earth leakage

I have a single phase 80-100A supply with TN-S. Overhead line to transformer then 300mish of underground cable. My Ze is 0.38Ohms I am hoping it’s an external issue as then it’s SP’s problem 😂 No I haven’t yet, but I will clamp my Line and Neutral tails in the morning when I return. If I’m...

    Earth leakage

Thought that to begin with but it stayed steady over a period of 5-10 minutes

    Farmers eh?

80% of my work is agricultural and it’s a nightmare most times, people just don’t get it and think that just because it’s worked for 30 years then it’ll be fine. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’m not sure about down across the border but a couple of insurance brokers up here are requiring EICR’s on all farm buildings...

    Earth leakage

Hi everyone, So today I finished wiring a DB to supply milking robots, turned it on and everything was going swimmingly till I put my Earth leakage clamp on and found I had 150-170mA on the main DB earth, but yet no rcbo’s tripping, so switched the board off and it was still there so I assumed...

    Surge! Device

Just as a follow up, I contacted Hager and they have advised just to use the standard 3 phase surge 🤷🏻‍♂️ so that’s what I’m getting haha

    Surge! Device

Hi everyone, Starting a new install today and have picked up a 3phase Hager board but plan on linking to convert it to single phase. Now my question is, how do I fit surge to this? Usually the 3phase Hager surge sits next to the main switch and each phase feeds into its own surge device. Can I...

    What's your go-to downlight? - 2023

My go to downlight and I know people’s thoughts on integral units but I used Bell Firestay downlights. Fire rated, dimmable and IP rated, 60-70mm hole I think and comes in white with a magnetic brushed chrome bezel. Also comes with push fit terminals and plug and socket style connector so can be...

    Flickering downlights

Probably doesn’t add much to the conversation but I’ve experienced this with Bell downlights (integrated units) even when fitted with the Bell dimmer which is supposed to be suited to them I still had a slight flicker and full brightness. Changed from dimmer to switch and flickering went away

    Cable running question

We/I don’t get involved in the solar install, we provide means of connection in the form of a mccb panel board and mccb and the solar and their electrical subby does everything to there. The cable I’m trying to work out is to supply one of the sheds with a 400A supply from his proposed new...

    Cable running question

    i like this idea, so instead of one mammoth 240mm² I could run 2 x parallel 120mm2 or 3 x 95mm² (I know that’s more than 240)

    Cable running question

The renewables company, they design and fit the panels and drop cables to ground level. Then they’ve got an electrical compan subbying to connect to all to the inverters and then AC out to an isolator and meter etc. and that’s as far as they go, we’ve got to then make it all work by feeding it...

    Cable running question

I know but the issue is, Mr farmer is getting a new 400A supply and is determined to get it run into the barn where his existing supply is, but the solar is getting fitted to 2 sheds, one 80m away then a further 40m from there. Trying to convince him the get Scottish Power to bring the supply...

    Cable running question

Hi everyone, I have the potential to be running a 185mm² or 240mm² 4 core SWA for a new supply for a silly farmer to fit 200kW of solar lol now my question is as follows, I know that I can calculate the size of Earth and if the armour meets the requirements, which I’m already thinking that it...

    Strange 125A fitting

Hi all, Got sent this by my old apprentice, it’s attached to a giant air compressor. Never seen one with straight in line pins before. Anyone any idea what and why it’s different lol
