    What size is this breaker

Lovely bit of workmanship by the fridge guys here. Can anyone work out what that  Protek 3 phase breaker is, this is the best  pic. It looks like a C32.  I do have loads of these single phase GE Series E breakers, years ago we used to put a rod through 3 (there is a hole in the handle for this )...

    Fire alarm upgrade

I have been maintaining & modifying a fire alarm system at a 'care in the community' type house (its not classed as a residential care home, although thats what it is)  for many years. There are  many things wrong that i always include on the quarterly report, but the system works and is...

    Fan isolation

Does a fan with an integral pull cord for its only  on-off operation (no timers, stats ect) need an isolator ? Is it any different to a wall light with a integral pull cord. Asking this to see the  numerous different replies & opinions .

    Led dimmers flickering

Not the normal senario. I went with my mate to look at a job we first wired over 15 years ago. Multi million £ house in central London. All the lighting is wired through 'Powerhouse X10 dimmers or controllers'. The circuits we have problems with  have recently had halogen GU10's  replaced with...

    Neutral testing

How many of you test Neutral to Cpc, ie  Rn to R2  when testing either new circuits or on a Eicr  (to be clear, similar test to R1 + R2) . All circuits not just rings . Also have you seen any software or test sheets that has anywhere to record this ?

    LED Snubber needed

I need some suppressors/snubbers to stop LED lamps flickering/glowing  when off via a dimmer rack. Cant remember the dimmer make but its all remote stuff KNX controlled so its not getting changed. Where do i get these from, done a search here & the www but cant find anything. Dont really...

    Main Earth size

When compiling a EICR or Installation cert what do you fill in for the main earth size when usually a 16mm cable has been taken to the MET but (again usually) the suppliers short cable is 2.5-4 mm ?  This would normally only arise with a TNS supply

    Position of fire alarm panel

I have looked this up a few times previously but dont think i found a definitive answer. Many times the fire alarm panel (with no repeaters etc) seems to be hidden away in cupboards or behind shop shelving. Other times commercial units layouts get changed so the panel ends up in a toilet or...

    GN 3

Is revision 7 the current & latest version & will a new one come out with the 18th ? Cant find one on the IET website.

    Overloaded cable, or not ?

Whilst retro fitting a rcbo i spotted this cable. Its feeding a kitchen ring but only a dish washer and occasional sockets.  The ring tested out fine, low value  end to ends etc.  Only 1 cable has overheated, i recon it was loose or even had missed the cage in the breaker. Whats everyone elses...
