    one more thing - the indicators work off the OBC, so there is no physical relay that makes them flash :/

    To be honest, I like the halogen bulbs - it kind of goes with the whole demeanour of my car. I do have some 'anti canbus' wiring looms to be fair so i may see how they get on with regular leds and the canbus system.  Ill let you know how I get on today (im just going to Maplin to get the relays...

    Thanks for that Andy! You know your stuff eh. Would it be possible to get a drawing of how it would all connect together? How many connections will I need on the SPDT? Im guessing 10A will be sufficient? So shopping list: 2x SPDT relays I really appreciate all of your help on this guys :)

    The lights are manual, wired to the side lights however I usually run my side lights all of the time anyway. Surely there must be some way of doing it? I admit I know very little about electronics so may be being extremely naive.

    i had a go just, with a 3W diode. I wired it in and the side lights come on, and the arch light flashed wen i put the indicator on, however it flashes opposite to the indicator. For example, when the indicator flashes on, the arch light goes off. when the arch light flashes on, the indicator...

    Thanks very much for all your help guys, massively appreciated. I will give it a go and see how it goes :)   So this above diagram will allow me to use the same single filament bulb for both jobs?

    That is exactly right Trailer Boy. Oh and they are single filament 501 bulbs. This is the same setup as most US cars and I know a lot of people with VWs over here do the same modification but I have no idea how to go about doing it. Orange sidelights are legal over here.
