Amd 3 Web Cast With Mark Coles (Iet)

Hi Guys, long time no speak! is anyone aware that consumer units will be made of metal yet under amendment 3! as 6 months ago I was mad and you all said it will never happen, or maybe this was because one of your sponsors sold a small amount of plastic imported consumer units! mmm, nice change...

That is a very valid point Noz, in a Caravan park I would imaging the supply (consumer unit) is generally outside and not in an enclosed area and as such is not combustible to surrounding materials. Manufacturers 'sharpend'

Yes I do Steptoe, but to be honest if steel ignites in a consumer unit then I will probably be dead anyway !!

No they don't Noz that is exactly it, (its metal)

Just one of you call them and ask them, I am telling you now all consumer units will be metal within 12 months, ( hiding in the corner waiting for the abuse to hit me  )

You can get it from the IET website on the proposals, I am not a Consumer unit Manufacturer, my advice to you is call one and ask their opinion on where it is going.

The point is sharpend is that consumer units will be made of metal going forward, the reasoning  behind it from the IET is solely to get rid of loose connections causing a potential fire hazard at the consumer unit (to contain it) I have no doubt most here will tighten the terminal connections...

Ah Steptoe, I think you may find its the consumer units enclosure that is in question! please don't believe me as most don't on this forum, call a mainstream manufacturer and ask them, no dig intended SBS Dave as I am sure your products are wonderful! So we are in agreement then a Consumer unit...

O heaven help me! are you all so obstinate that you cannot conduct a civilised conversation without being silly! ok, I do not make the rules, the IET do, don't argue with it just live with it! yes Kerching an RCD is encased in a plastic enclosure as is an MCB etc and indeed before you think...

But the RCD is before the metal enclosure? in series with! Its a TT System!

Sorry you feel that way KME, maybe a response would of sufficed as it was a question not a statement, I only deal with facts and not silly accusations and certainly will not throw my toys out of the cot if I don't like the answers, maybe I will get an educated answer from someone tomorrow, in...

Thanks for your imput KME, maybe you could elaborate on why a metal enclosure cannot be used on a TT system? sorry apprentices are in bed now :)
  16. M

    Assesment At 1Pm

A TT System needs an RCD switch anyway, which is usually before the Consumer unit! so what has a metal enclosure got to do with it? obviously Electricians need to be aware of eddy currents but this is covered in year 2 work

Mr Smith, I Sincerely apologise to Mr KME if he has taken offense and I will try and keep my future posts a lot less confusing for him, "where is the knitting forum again " :)

    G83-2 Settings And Voltage Optimisation

Hi Steptoe, I cannot say whos device it is as I believe Company names are banned from the forum, mind you so does being disrespectful but unfortunately some members seem to get away with it. Yes, if the grid voltage fell to 225v then the unit would output at a lower voltage, but the question...

Thankyou Mr Smith, do you not think and I quote "dont be so bloody soft and fin feeding it" justified the response it got, from the previous post?
