One more debatable C&G exam question!

I am 100% sure that I recall several mock exam questions being wrong!!! Basically someone tries to slightly tweak a real exam question.. But then cocks-up the classic C&G double negative element, to create a completely wrong question and selection of answers!!!

One more debatable C&G exam question!

I may be wrong... But technically, (although its not done as the solar thermal panels are typically already at the highest point of a property), I think it would be actually possible to create a solar thermal with NO electrical source needed at all...?? e.g. Older early gas central heating...

One more debatable C&G exam question!

Is this a 'self-study-at-home-online-type-course' you are doing rich1? and/or do you have access/contact details to a tutor who you could ask for a bit more guidance as to what C&G reasoning is for this question? Its been a while but I am sure that back in the days of my old classroom based...

    C&G 2365 example questions unit 203

It is common practice with electrical courses to give you enough information to allow you sufficient knowledge to deduce a correct answer, without actually spoon-feeding all answers. Getting you competent at using the BS7671 index is a key point of most C&G exams! from your answers it appears...

13A Hob and 45A Oven isolators, confusing.

I don't think isolators are confusing... But possibly your question is confusing... What exactly are you asking? Not 100% convinced your assumptions are accurate? e.g. why would anybody reach for "The-Red-Switch" after using a hob or cooker-top? Many modern single ovens can just plug into...

    Short in socket - baffled

Welcome to the forum Jay-Jay.. (y) Great opening post.. giving good background & experience about yourself.. and the question you need help with.. A few of my thoughts are as follows.... (1) When investigating the composition of a circuit and what cables go between the various sockets /...

Off peak supply and on peak in one board

So you designed and installed this new arrangement... But the thought never crossed you mind that previously you had 2x Main Switches and 2x Neutral bars? Why didn't you consider using an amended split-load type board with dual neutral bars already fitted, and a second main switch in place of...

Now that is just "thinking-outside-the-box".. Is that allowed??? Or should we be haggling for a life ban with the admins???? 🍻

Off peak supply and on peak in one board

As per Twatt-Daves observations this really shouldn't be too much of a problem to resolve for anyone competent to work on domestic CU's? Unless of course you are new to the game and haven't yet cut-your-teeth on some less standard and/or a bit obscure arrangements? What is your background...

    SWA Termination Query

I would think that a short time doing a few continuity and Insulation resistance tests would indicate what the actual problem is...?? I have no idea how you are going to prove anything without getting a competent electrician with appropriate test gear out to do a few tests and investigations...

Off peak supply and on peak in one board

Are you saying you have two "main-switches" wired in parallel to the same neutral bar? Or if not how are these two main switches connected? If connected in parallel how are you meeting compliance with 461.1.201. i.e. either switch should be able to disconnecting both live conductors of a single...

Upgrading home service from 60Amp to 100Amp

If you are aware that the incoming supply has limitations why even consider a 10.8kW shower?? Dropping the rating a bit is probably a useful improvement with minimal loss of actual perceivable performance.. and less hassle than faffing around with upgrading cut-out fuse.

How to become a trade electrician

Hello Robint.. welcome to the forum... Just to quickly summarise... Most of the observations/comments/points/thoughts.. etc.. you added on your various posts have already been discussed numerous times since Part-P was introduced 2005/6ish.. Plus the rise of the "5-Week wonders", (Who...

Back to basics with fault finding.. Dead testing of continuity of all conductors would be my starring point.. Then Insualtion resistance tests.. Then I would consider energising all or some part of the circuit for further live tests of earth loop impedance.. etc..

New Induction Hob No Earth Terminal

erm... the Wickes website info clearly states it "comes with a 13A plug" ? 4 plates at 3.25amps each... 2 at 6.5amps... or 1 at 13amps maybe? just guessing!

If the picture on the label is anything to go by, then they assume it WILL be connected via a 13amp, 3pin, UK plug... Or a European, 2pin plug.. I'm not sure what max amps on a 2pin Euro-Plug is ? but I can't believe it would be 32A ? So assuming 16A or 20A max?

    Always learning/finding something new.

Had a call to a single female occupied property.. Just guessing, but probably difficulties as a small fish trying to swim in a big pool with lots of much stronger fish...?? {I think when the original SBS was set up, 2011, compact RCBO's were either limited availability and/or quite expensive? But Choice, Cost & Availability have changed quite...

New Induction Hob No Earth Terminal

Bad idea in my opinion.. I am guessing you would then have an appliance requiring 13amp fuse protection directly connected to a 32amp supply relying on the MCB in the CU to provide overload protection.. which could be bad news in the event of a fault! What you probably need to do is fit a...
