Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

As far as I remember there was none of that...     Yes, I will contact Trading Standards ASAP. In the meantime I don't feel inclined to tamper with the "evidence"... at least until I've spoken to them. But one way or another I'll find out what's been going on  :well-confused: As...

Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

Pin-side of the 13A plug: Looks like the pins are part-insulated - and anyway, the plug was fully in the socket.

Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

OK - although presumably I need to contact Trading Standards in Camden (where the lamp was bought) rather than Hackney (where we live). And I will of course report back regarding the outcome. Thanks again for all the helpful contributions!

Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

Yes I do feel inclined to follow up with trading standards - there are 100's of other lamps being sold by the same shop which are presumably similar. The lamp takes screw-in SES / E14 bulbs.

Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

I can't see any obvious chaffing or exposed wires on the outside - but who knows what's going on on the inside.... Also I should add that the lamp was NOT bought second hand from a market stall. It was bought NEW from a shop premises in Camden market that sells turkish lamps and has literally...

Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

I safely disconnected the turkish lamp, and opened up its plug. It has a 2-core flex and the plug has a 13-amp fuse. Blue is connected to N, Brown is connected to L, nothing is connected to E. Yes - I will get it checked, and let you know the outcome!  Thanks again to all.

Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

Thanks a lot for the advice. Any particular type of electrician or credentials we need to look for? Or is there a directory of qualified electricians we can use?  I'm just looking for something slightly better than typing "electrician" into google.

Electric Shock From Lamp And/or Mains Wall Sockets

My wife got a large electric shock in our flat yesterday - thankfully she is OK, but I wanted some advice about what to do, and who we should find to get everything checked out.   We live in a new build flat. We have not made any modifications to anything, or done any DIY. In the bedroom there's...
