Assistance with a faulty Brook Motors manual starter switch for Phase 1 5Hp motor for grain milling machine

Just found someones description of operation which might help :- Capacitor-start motors use a capacitor in series with a winding and a centrifugal switch. At start-up, the cap is in the circuit to produce a phase shift, relative to the main winding, in the start-up winding. When the motor...

Assistance with a faulty Brook Motors manual starter switch for Phase 1 5Hp motor for grain milling machine

Have you checked the centrifugal switch is not stuck ? First prove the centrifugal switch is normally closed with a meter/test lamps . Try lubricating this, as this has to be closed then opens when motor shaft spins ? Let me Know if this cures the operation procedure from Start to Run .

    How effective is Part P?

I agree about modular consumer units .The fact that you require a torque screwdriver ,so not to over tighten connections tells you every thing about the components that are being manufactured . Cheaper & cheaper products . Copper comb busbars can create bad connection , due tightening blind. So...

    Electric saw will not run.

As Telly Savalas once sang in the 70s , A picture paints a thousand words !!! Some pictures would help . Bell across stop contact , this should be N.C contact . Check the hold on contact on contactor, this should be N.O and closes when the start button is pressed . Sounds like its not...

    Board change help

A few years back i was carrying out mod's to motor control panels .Taking out 26 star/delta starters ,and fitting Danfoss VLT inverters for energy savings at the Burrell museum Glasgow. The Electrician who was working with me, had not experienced a borrowed neutral scenario. All motor control...

    Board change help

In the past ,More electricians were killed due to a borrowed neutral , by thinking they have isolated the circuit ,but when they go to disconnect the neutral it is now a live conductor ,having been fed from another live circuit ....

The Owner said it trips randomly but started over the weekend when it was raining rather heavily. Would look at any outside Light fittings etc, as clue due to heavy rain 🤔

    RFI From Inverter

Hi ,i know this may not have any bearing on the above ,but we fitted loads inverters forAHU fan motors, pumps etc .Replacing star/delta starters . Mostly in hospitals ,so didn't want spurious RF in a hospital environment. Where possible we kept the inverter as close to the motors as possible, as...

    Plastic Consumer units

Hi I seen this about a year a go ,and flagged it up to Efixx to see if they would do a video on it ,but they said had'nt heard of it and will look into it ,but when i contacted Efixx on follow up email, no response. Think they look for payment for making videos ,which can compromise there...

Well it’s that time of the year again! It’s been a mixed year so , in-line with tradition, here are a few things that have mildly irritated me

Groucho Marx once said ,TV improves his intelligence! Every time someone switches on the TV ,he picks up a good book and goes into a different room .🤣🤣

I knew i had got 18amp from somewhere in the recesses of my brain LOL .I would have probably erred on the lower side also .

Two ring mains in a room

Cheers for that ,as they say every days a school day . It would have been 15th edition yellow book i think , but thanks for enlightening me . The Cables i would probably have fitted ,had been bunched together, and covered in glass wool etc. Why would Mort2376 fit 20amp Mcb, if cable the is...

Two ring mains in a room

Hi Mort2376 I'm now retired, but we were alway's taught that the MCB is to protect the cable, from drawing over current ,and cause a risk of fire . 2.5mm current rating was 18amp max in my day , so why would i use a 25amp MCB ? Has the IEE reg's changed .Can you give me the new regulation that...
