    Quick Question

Been called out to a school that's had a flood due to having the lead ripped off the roof. Replaced loads of panel leds due to water ingress but when testing there is no earth continuity on the cables feeding each driver and pir. They were fitted in 2019/20 by some company that used wago...

BT Open Reach - rant time

Yep down to whichever service provider they choose to supply the service. Depending on the area you might get a new analogue line installed but its very doubtful. Will probably end up with a fibre connection and router to provider VOIP. Even if no broadband is being supplied. If they already...

    Brain Fog

I seem to remember being told at either a tech talk or something similar that there was a maximum rating for a fixed connected appliance that could be plugged in on a 13a socket. I know a 13a socket is 3kw but in my mind I've got 2.2kw as a maximum. I've tried looking in the BBB and OSG buy...

Agree CEF live was far better. I'm going to the fire and security show at the NEC this year as well. More freebies and cpd points lol

Better attended than last year, but a few large brands missing. I think many are of the opinion that there are better deals and freebies to be had elsewhere ! So why take a morning off. I use it as my yearly pen restock as I'm forever leaving them places 🤣

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

We are only discussing it here on the forum. It's all fantasy. Of course in the real world I would always contact the supplier to arrange an appointment 8 weeks in the future to sit and wait all day for the engineer to turn up. I charge the customer a waiting time similar to taxi companies for...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

The official line is either the customers energy supplier to fit an isolator. Which is not an urgent job so can take weeks. Or use a SIP provider. But trying to find a SIP provider isn't easy neither is finding out much about the SIP scheme !

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

No I must admit I have looked and watched the YouTube video by efixx about it. They did say that not many companies had signed up to it. It's always going to be an us and them thing until a sparky gets injured doing it. Then they will seriously do something about it. Anytime I've cut the...

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

They said while the calculations are old (1934) they give you a result that is acceptable. However you as the installer can determine it anyway that's sensible. Given that the power networks allow 8 amps per property for new housing estates the entire thing is a total farce !

    Which circuit is appropriate ?

According to the IET at yesterday's techtalk diversity is something they are looking at for the next update.

    New cable

But can you still use the cpc to strip the cable ?

    Just wondering, why bother?

Until there is a definitive reg thats states dual rcd boards are non compliant then people are going to still fit them. Every new build by the big companies still have them as they save a few quid. Yes they are compliant at the time of install if balanced correctly, but start adding to them...

    3kW heater - 2.5mm T+E - 32A MCB?

Can you modify the heaters so its not running at 3kw ? Some have switches for the load others have internal switches. If you set them both to 2Kw you could put them on a 20/25a and its compliant. If you can get a 25a MCB/RCBO for the board it will probably be ok running at 3kw. Depending on the...

    Todays little issue….

I had one of those tins in my old house. I changed the CU and called them out, they just put a small new cutout in the box and some paxolin sheet to cover the holes. LOL Its probably still like that now.
