    Guidance please

I'd fuse the spur at either 5 or 10a. Chances are the mcb will trip before either of those sizes.

    Guidance please

Fit rcd spur next to board run lights through the spur unit. Problem solved. No need for a board change. Plastic units were fine at the time of installation. Even now it's only a recommended upgrade if on an escape route for an eicr report.

Is this possibly caused by poor earthing?

The price seems fair for the work, but IMHO its more of a work around rather than a fix. If there is no cpc on the lights then I would be getting it rewired which also means they can install fully interlinked smoke alarms to provide a more reliable system. Whilst the other readings seem ok if...

    Electrics tripping RCD

Just so you can budget an Rcbo board change will be anywhere from £750 - 1300 depending on manufacturer and if your earth bonding requires updating at the same time. Also if there are faults found on circuits these will need to be rectified or they won't be connected. A good electrician will...

Extractor fan install is noifiable, plus more!!

I'm passed caring. I'm just going to tell customers I no longer install fans as there's too much paperwork involved. BC don't care as I've never had any checks carried out on any of the work I've notified. I know that's supposed to be the point of the schemes but the most 1 customer has had...

Channel 5 - 13 things they don’t want us to know about Smart meters

They have tried 3 times to install a smart meter at my parents house. Each time I send them an email saying there is no room in the meter cupboard to install a smart meter. I have sent pictures as well. It's a 1950s property with the meter in the corner of the living room, over the years the...

Extractor fan install is noifiable, plus more!!

And thats why I wont be installing Fans anymore. Im not paying for a course for something I only fit 3 or 4 times a year and very rarely from new. Its normally replacement units that have failed. Building control never inspect these things, Tenants in rental properties turn them off because...

    Napit and frequency of assessments.

I was the same. I spoke to Napit at one of the shows and they said during covid they gave every company a score. If they had never had any issues you could go 3 years if they had concerns then it was still 12 months. I was 3 years but had my assessment in June this year. Take it as a compliment...

    DNO Cut-Out location - regulations / guidance?

If that is an external wall that you can fit an external cabinet to then it wouldnt take much to turn that round to sit in the said cabinet. Im sure if the cabinet was installed and you asked the meter fairys very nicely you would turn your back and it may suddenly have turned itself around and...

    When to rewire?

I always say that between 40 to 50 years is the expected life expectancy for cable. It's down to so many factors so there is no definite answer.

    Advice on smart meter/monitor

Why do you need a variable tarrif ? That adds complications to any form of monitoring install.
  15. mort2376

Can I remove this time switch (meter)?

Agree with whats been said above. If the customer is already on a single rate tarrif which I doubt as they are probably still providing 2 readings then get them to contact their supplier and they will arrange for a new single rate meter to be installed. If the clock is removed the dual rate...

    Any iTunes experts on here?

I think ipods sometimes stored things in a different style. Are you using the same apple account as you did when you loaded the iPod. If you dragged and dropped mp3 files onto it, you may need to download an old driver for it so the laptop can see it as an external device or drive. Also ensure...

To TT or Not TT thats the question !

This is my plan. I'm changing 2 boards first which means the terminations will be remade off. Then I will retest and decide what happens then. It's booked for 1st of October so I'll let you know what happens. Also been asked to do some juggling of circuits as the battery storage that's...
