    Bi directional protection devices

I'm not an electrician, but I watched an efixx video on this recently, they explained that if the rcbo tripped and the power remained on the output, it would burn out the coil for the relay. The thing is that PV inverters stop generating when they lose grid connection, so surely they won't...

    Car radiator fan vent.

You might find the power supply can't handle the startup (inrush) current, they can draw quite a bit when they first kick in.

VAT or no VAT on solar?

Pre zero vat rate, the installer may have charged 10% mark up on materials, then added VAT, now it's probably 30% mark up, and no VAT. Basically you can't be charged VAT but the installer decides how much mark up they put on the parts, labour rates could also be increased by 20%

    Octopus Flux Battery Charging strategy

Sorry for the late reply, it's as per the above post, or can be done in the inverter setup. If you wanted to change the current on the fly, I would think it can be done from Node Red. I've been using the full 140 Amps over winter, which is only 0.25c for my batteries, so no need to reduce...

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

Batteries have been dropping in price quite a bit lately, even the grade A 280Ah cells are only £130 each now from Fogstar, that's £50 cheaper than a year go. Grade B are just £100 retail.

Can you check an automation components history?

Is there likely to be a market for the kit, looks pretty specialised to me? I've still got stuff I bought because I thought I could buy it, use what I needed and sell the surplus.

    My fogstar rack battery

If you're looking in to different BMS's then JK have just released a new one. https://off-grid-garage.com/battery-management-systems-bms/

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

Andy's main issues was around the way the BMS reset the SOC to 100%, and also how the system would restrict generation once the battery was full, so the batteries would supply power rather the solar ramping up to meet denand when there was plenty of solar available, then the batteries would...

    My fogstar rack battery

@Mcskippster if you want a high quality setup, then it has to be Victron with your choice of batteries. It makes for an Incredibly flexible system, but it's expensive. For voltages have a look at Andy's off grid garage recommendations.

New Victron / Seplos Battery install issue

I use an ET112 energy meter to monitor my SolarEdge production, grid usage uses the Quattro's built in energy meter (grid flows through the Quattro), which is out by about 5%, I may one day get another ET112 to use for grid monitoring. I'm very pleased with my system.

What's the bit in bold mean?

New Victron / Seplos Battery install issue

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be using the PV Inverter assistant, you've mentioned you're using ESS, which is mainly for grid tied systems, the PV Inverter assistant is for off grid, and its purpose is to alter the frequency of the AC output to limit or shut down an AC connected PV inverter. The...

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

The thing that confuses me is if I set the solar to 0% (its a really bad day!), don't force eport and only import off peak, it says I have a loss of £2.57 But thats not the daily cost, the daily cost is £4.73. Now I'm guessing that because I end the day on 44% SOC it see's some of it not...

For the Victron's guru out there. A few technical questions

In that case just, click the link again, its some sort of weird bug, clicking the link again normally opens the shared site.

More about AC coupled vs DC coupled system

DC coupled batteries are more efficient, therefore less loses. In a DC system such as the Victron system, current flows from the panels through the MPPT to the batteries, apart from the MPPT dropping the voltage down there is no conversion, so it is more efficient. The batteries are normally...

For the Victron's guru out there. A few technical questions

@Bob Smith Yes they can be noisy, but mines in my detached garage, and yes it does add very quickly cost wise, and having an installer install it will be even more expensive. I did all the DC stuff, and I had an electrician do the AC side.

For the Victron's guru out there. A few technical questions

Take a look at my build thread to see whats possible, and I'm sure I'm only scratching the surface. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/ronskis-solar-battery-diy-build-with-whole-house-backup.18957434/ A word of warning Victron gets very expensive, very quickly, but during in testing I...

    Octopus Flux Battery Charging strategy

You're missing it somewhere along the way, Octopus watch tells me my electric bill for the last four months is -£600, so after all the electric I've drawn from the grid, and then exported including excess generation Octopus have paid me £600, my bills are negative. I import 21.5kWh every day...

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

My thoughts as well, I might subscribe for one month and cancel just to have a play.

Solis 3kW AC coupled Inverter & Fogstar 5.12kWh Rack Battery ?

I had a brief play last night, it's interesting, but some of the better features like minimum SOC are only in the subscription version.
