    NVR networking problem

Hi, Are there any Network Video Recorder experts on here, who could perhaps help me with a problem? I have an EAGLE-NVR-4-2BUL-8MP-1TB, purchased from CPC and installed in my bungalow, with three cameras. In itself it works fine with the images on its dedicated monitor, record/replay as...

    Tesco solar panels

App Tesco are planning to install panels on their larger stores, a news item supported with this picture. What struck me is the angles of the panels. Is this layout the most efficient ? How would it be arrived at?

Heavy grid loading today. Does anyone else think we are running dangerously near the limit?

    BS1363 on holiday

In principle Cyprus is wired to UK standards, particularly in using BS1363 sockets. I thought that this arrangement in our hotel room was a very good illustration of what really happens. The left hand plug was the fridge, the centre position the TV, and the right hand one, with the adaptor...

Windpower is older than you may think.

Admin please delete if you don't consider it appropriate. It appears that this chap developed wind turbine blades for electrical generation about a century before they became today's common sight. https://mailchi.mp/millsarchive.org/poul-la-cour-windpower-pioneer?e=9d6dc63d95

Ageing solar panels; Should I be concerned?

My panels are about nine years old. I've noticed that a proportion of them have developed visible irregular lines which seem to cross some of the "cells". I don't have sophisticated instrumentation and as far as I can tell the system is still working fine. Are these lines a known occurrence? Are...

    Caravan site horror

Stepped out of my caravan awning to find my neighbour demonstrating the versatility of Gaffa tape.

    Appliance safety with online shopping

What does anyone think of this?  Seems to me a commendable aim but probably easier said than done given that the sellers are frequently overseas.  https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/stop-the-sale-of-dangerous-electrical-goods-on-online-marketplaces/?

    Recommendations for reliable LED floodlights

I'm looking for recommendations for reliable LED floodlights to use as feature lighting, that is illuminating walls. I think around 50 watts will be suitable.  Access for maintenance is difficult and expensive so reliability is the over-riding requirement, much more important than initial cost...

    That's the car ramp fixed.

There have been dire warnings on here occasionally regarding the dangers of interfering with limit switch wiring. I thought this image illustrated the point well. Sorry I don't know the story behind it; just an internet find.

    Renewables in winter

Is it just me who thinks the UK is heading for disaster with our power supplies? It's presently calm, mostly overcast, but as it's only October not particularly cold, and it's Saturday, so presumably industrial demand will be modest.  I've just looked at  https://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/...

Shopping, hoarding, and keeping figures in proportion

Just read an interesting article in the Telegraph which looks at some of the shopping statistics presently being thrown around. It points out that the one billion pounds worth of goods allegedly being hoarded over the past three weeks amounts to about 10% of normal turnover for that period. I...

    A Christmas puzzle

Right then! Spent a whole Christmas mealtime pondering this, (though that did not in any way detract from enjoyment of the meal) Just how does it work?  It's two glass tumblers, one inside the other, with the inner one is apparently a completely standard wax candle. The space between the two...

A new target for PPI solicitors

I received a letter this morning from a legal company offering to pursue a, "mis-selling", claim relative to my solar panel installation. I guess this is now they are running out of PPI work. Such a claim would prove problematic for them in my case, as I specified what I wanted to my supplier...

    Security of electrical supply

I've just been surprised to learn that there are serious UK power issues IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER.  I've been concerned for a while that our grid network is running on a knife edge. Our nuclear resources seem to be aged and unreliable. Coal fired power stations are being decommissioned on...

    Notre Dame

I see that the latest news from Paris is that the police are saying that an electrical fault is the most likely cause of the fire. Elsewhere I read that the workmen busy in that area claim they switched off the power as they left.  To me the police assumption seems a little hasty, perhaps taken...

    Safety certification mark

Just read that a new product mark is to be introduced following Brexit, apparently UKCA in some stylised form. Why can't the good old British Standards "Kite mark" be used?  It was doing the job long before CE was dreamed of, and at the end of the day many of the European EN standards are...
