    Pond pump installation

Hi all OK I just thought I'd pop back and say a big thank you to all those who helped out here. The cable is in - the pond is in and the fountain is on. For the curious the armour is grounded at the supply end (only). We persuaded a local council electrician to come in and check out what I...

    13A spur - how many

Yes sidewinder - thats the jpg I had to look at. ProDave makes a good point - how can I confirm the socket I'm looking at is fed off the ring and is not a spur itself? All the wiring in it seems to be 2.5mm solid core if that helps. The second option top left on the diagram looks like I can...

    13A spur - how many

Related to my pond pump thread but I thought this may be simpler - hope thats ok I have a single 13A socket with a spur taken off it.  Ideally I would like to add a second spur to feed my pond pump. question is - what is my allowed method of doing this as I'm looking for the simplest...

    Pond pump installation

I'll look into that and see what I can do john. The consumer unit is quite blank - the installers hadn't even labelled the circuits. I've just had a quick look on wikipedia for the terms and found what looks like a decent page at Earthing types explained on wikipedia Its a bit much for me to...

    Pond pump installation

Thanks Andy - That confirmation makes me happier. Yes Rob - I spotted that at the start - easily overlooked though. I think that link I mentioned explains the indoor/outdoor glands I have the 20S outdoor type from screwfix. (cw is it called?) I'm not sure how to respond to the earth type...

    Pond pump installation

Ok - then thanks to all for the replies. this link Armoured cable clip (which appears to be one of the best) says about 60 seconds from the end: 1, ...must always connect armour even if internal ground is used (my expansion - 3 core single phase) 2. ...generally ground at both ends 3...

This is what pees me off with this stupid country

In the final analysis the faults (all of them) fall back to responsibility. We have totally outlawed the notion that anyone is responsible for anything so everything falls to rat**** Punishment for anything is considered "wrong", criminal acts that can be ignored are ignored, incompetent...

    Pond pump installation

Sidewinder does bring up a good point. One I should have asked myself. Whilst I'm unfamiliar with common practice in the electricians/power  world - in my experience in the world of electronics this is a recurrent issue. (More so with high frequency circuit board design but others also) To...

    Pond pump installation

Thanks to both. Yes now I've stopped saying "flange" and realised I meant "gland"  - I can find the info I needed! Indeed I will ground at both ends. And I do need to bury it deeper - thanks. I'm not sure why providing answers is a problem - I thought that was the whole purpose of a forum.

    Pond pump installation

Thanks for the replies The pump is a submersible aquamax 3000 - it has a UV light and fountain attachment standard 240v/50   7 watts for the UV and 13w for the pump 20W total. One electrician I spoke to said he only does indoor work. The others just seemed reluctant. (That made me a bit...

    Pond pump installation

Hi I'm planning on installing a small pond pump and local electricians seem reluctant to get involved so I've decided to do the work myself. My electrical experience is C&G from 35 years ago and my only outdoor experience is 440V 3 phase The last 30 years have been electronics oriented...
