Best way to connect new LED light to existing wiring

Doh! Wish I'd known earlier. I guess I judged a book by its cover. It seemed decent stuff, price was fair, stocked by TLC Electrical which are popular with the trade and I have always had excellent service there. Fingers crossed the other 3 don't fail any time soon? :( Looks like I will go...

Best way to connect new LED light to existing wiring

Thank you for the advice guys. I fitted some ML / Knightsbridge dimmers, sockets and switches and so far they have been ok. They carry a 15 year guarantee. The LED light I purchased from TLC Electrical, I am a regular there and they guys said bring the old one that doesn't work back no problems...

Best way to connect new LED light to existing wiring

Thanks for the advice, Geoff. I am a little nervous of giving it a good tug (!) because if it is connected to, say, one of these (attached pic) too much of a tug and it might rip. And since the patio is granite, lifting that up would be a complete nightmare which I'd like to avoid!

Best way to connect new LED light to existing wiring

It's not the best photo but if you look carefully at the second image, you will see that the cabling is protruding from a black connection gland like in the picture attached. This connected into the back of the old light fitting. When I was lifting it out, the gland and wiring detached itself...

Best way to connect new LED light to existing wiring

Couple weeks ago I noticed that one of the four LED uplights in the garden was flickering when turned on (its an ML Accessories / Knightsbridge unit). It would eventually stabilise and work as normal but as the unit is still under warranty I thought it would be worth replacing it. After some...

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

Hello all. I thought I would chime in with an update. I narrowed the issue down to MCB #8, ring circuit ground floor. Prior to the sparky visiting, I popped out all the 2 gang sockets on that ring and within about half an hour of him arriving, he pointed out that one of the sockets had a lose...

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

You are correct, electricity is not my area of expertise, but isn't the whole point of forums is to share what thoughts and advise people who need help and who otherwise might be clueless? I know I am no good at this, and hence a steer in the right direction would be welcome. Electrician cannot...

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

Little update - went to bed with the shower, first floor sockets, lights and wall lights MCBs all in the down position and all plugs taken out of their respective sockets - result? Still trips the RCD. Next step was to try and see if perhaps it is one of the MCBs to the left of the RCD: ring...

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

Thanks Roy - would unplugging appliances as well as switching off MCBs help narrow things down? ie. if I swith off MCBs and also unplug everything from the sockets in the relevant rooms and the RCD is not tripped then can we say the issue is with a socket in that area?

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

Why? Is it not a case of switching the unit off via the main switch (far left of CU), using a multi meter to see if voltage is flowing through anywhere I will be touching, then unscrewing the screws with an insulated screw driver and inserting correctly cut busbar in before tightening it back...

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

Morning folks. I have been a recommended a good electrician but he is only able to come and see me next Thursday. :( While I am waiting I would like to do more fault finding, because the issue is that as soon as the RCD trips, the house alarm goes ballistic because it thinks somebody is trying...

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

Thanks for all the comments guys. I will do some trial and error testing and switch on / off some MCBs to see how the RCD reacts to it over the course of the next several days. Will report back anyhow. Oh and will get that busbar sorted!

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

Morning guys! Over the weekend I noticed that the 80a RCD in my consumer unit kept tripping. The house doesn't have anything particularly power hungry - no air con, no DIY tools. It even trips in the  middle of the night sometimes (I know so because the house alarm has a little fit when it...
