    Earthing conundrum

Cheers pal, to be totally honest I wish id never got involved with this bloody job!! Can't see why I would need to fuse down at each post if using 6amp breaker, in section 715 if I understand it correctly , it only mentions isolation for each circuit 714.537.2.1.1. Regarding exposed/ extraneous...

    Earthing conundrum

Hi mate, here goes, 600 deep as I think this is the common rule (I know it's not in the regs) Ducting ( in case of additions / or rewiring)  Load is 12w per lamp Distance 50metres run Post evenly space 3core ( because this is a rewiring job, initial wiring failed as armour corroded, in cut...

    Earthing conundrum

Hi mate , sorry to bother you , I'm sure you've better things to do on a saterday , I've had a look at the IET guide , but just to clarify the guide seams to relate to DNO street furniture , my lamppost are from a private supply

    Earthing conundrum

Never knew that , think my main concern is definition of exposed or extraneous , part 2 regs seems pretty clear that lamppost is exposed as its part of electrical equipment , although I can see that I could obviously introduce an earth potential . I spoke with a guy from IET and he argread that...

    Earthing conundrum

Hi guys , I've been away for a few weeks , now back to this bloody job ( looks like I've started a bit of an argument ! Any how I've managed to find an alternative TN S supply for these lights , bit of a longer cable run . I've wired the posts in 3core 6mm swa , this is the biggest cable size I...

    Earthing conundrum

This is starting to do my head in now 🤔 But as I understand it goes like this  if there is a break in the PEN conductor of a tncs supply the cpc and all exposed and extraneous conductive parts , could rise to mains potential . As their is no imbalance R C D will  Not operate , and as the...

    Earthing conundrum

Thanks for replying , to be honest I think I've got myself into bit of a kerfuffle over this , but if you look in regs special location ( outside lighting ) think 714 , it does seam to be what the regs say , I'm meating with a bloke from York city council on Tuesday apparently he's there top man...

    Earthing conundrum

Hi thanks for all replies , on closer inspection I've discovered one of the supply's for a number of lights is actually a P M E , as I understand it that takes me back to table 54.8 . The nutral supply cable to this building is 150 mm so that means 35 mm Earth cable ??? thats how I read it...

    Earthing conundrum

Thanks Andy , I appreciate your time , as I mentioned previously I'm classing the posts as a exposed conductive part so in my opinion the green and yellow is a c.p.c . Would you argree ? Would you put a couple of rods in for good measure , can't see what harm this would do  thanks again kind...

    Earthing conundrum

Thanks for replying guys , the posts are actually bolted to concreat slabs so not in contact with the ground , have checked out section 714 and I only makes reference to P M E supply reg 714.411.203 and refers to table 54.8 for earth size  but bizzarly reg 544.1.1 says table 54.8 doesn't apply...
