    Loft wiring

What do you think what cause most stress to a roof structure? A 10mm hole through each joist or a load of chipboard + extras on each joist. Most engineered roof structures are designed for the roof covering only and not for boarding out lofts.

    Socket tester puzzle.

The pictures posted earlier are the model I have and yes there is nothing denoting a 3 led illumination, hence my posting this new topic. As soon as I got home I tried it on my own socket and I got the 2 green led ok light. Nez spark--with all due respect I am not blind. 3 led's were...

    Socket tester puzzle.

Today's job was a freebie for my daughter. She is wanting some extra sockets in her lounge. I decided to use my Fluke socket tester to verify which circuit to isolate. The tester is showing 2 green and 1 red led illuminated. Eh? Go to the board and do global insulation tests-- 4.5M  ohms...

    Switching To Led Savings

Changed 96 lights in my local pub to led. That was about 4.5 kW for 14 hours a day. Now using 500W. 7 months payback time.

    Odd Fault Tripping Rcd

Today I was working on my last job before retirement, still plenty to do though. Anyway, next door asks me if I can have a look at his house as when he resets his  rcd his neighbours trips. Don't want to get involved but a quick look found the following. Originally the property was one house...

    Neff Double Oven 5.7Kw

Model is Neff U15M52N3GB which customer has not yet ordered. Steps--- yes I know 2.5mm will be ok for 24A in most conditions but you can't get 24A mcb's, Next one is 32A which would be to big. So I install 4mm on 32A mcb but MI's state max fuse 24A??????

    Neff Double Oven 5.7Kw

Anyone fitted one of these? Do they come with their own supply cable? MI's is for 24A fuse rating but no info to enable me to apply diversity. Had some of these ovens where you can hardly get a 4mm into the connections.

    Amitex Led Lights

Has anyone fitted these 9W led's? At  about £23 they look ok but they are only 40W equivalent. Thought they would be an alternative to Halers Pro but now having doubts. Customer advised by kitchen designer to have them fitted. They are sold by CEF.

No Hot Water Or Heating Following A System Drain Down

The cold water feeds the bottom of the hot water cylinder direct from the header tank. My problem was on the domestic hot water and not the radiator part but was caused by a loop in the pipework.(as described by Prodave)

No Hot Water Or Heating Following A System Drain Down

Had this problem twice on the same system after drain down. There was a loop in the paperwork from header tank to cistern. First time I loosened the return input connector at the cistern and this cleared the air lock. Second time I did the same but installed a tap at that point so any further...

EDF opinion on bS951 clamps on tns earth

Today's job found this type of clamp on TNS incomer. Getting 1.23 ohms direct from lead sheath. Not going to waste anytime with DNO so will TT. As per the the regs, Ze can be determined by enquiry, so what if the DNO were to say Ze is 0.80 ohms?

I doubt if the full details have been disclosed in this particular case. Seems a harsh sentence to me.

There Are Some Cheeky Blighters About

Reminds me of when I got a set of new step ladders and left them at the clients house for the weekend. Plasterer worked over the weekend and used my steps. Left them covered all over in plaster. 8 years later there are still traces of that plaster.

Each ufh zone is controlled by its own programmable roomstat. The hot water and rads are controlled by a separate 2 channel programmer.

    Speedfit Ufh

It's a mains pressure water system. I have no problems with the hot water and upstairs radiators. They are all working correctly and wired to their own wiring centre. The ufh controls and manifold are situated remotely from the boiler and hot water tank. All I need is a switched live from...
