    Decent Outdoor Bulkheads with PIR

Think I’ll go for the 2x PIR and a single light higher up. Anyone experience of these? Can they be linked together at the fitting...

    Decent Outdoor Bulkheads with PIR

Hi folks, lighting question.. if anyone had experience of some outdoor lights to recommend, be appreciated! Task - light up path with PIR lights (1 or 2 lights) Location - Dark. Approx 7m long path - with a two story house wall along the entire length of the path. This wall is where the lights...

An end to MCS dominance in the solar PV market? (self declared exports now available)

This sounds promising. Be interesting to know how much free energy has been provided to the national grid since 2019. Sure our new build estate has 400 houses since 2019, all uncertified and with 3 panels on each roof.. across the country the national grid must’ve done quite well out of all the...

no neutral wire in lighting circuit - is this dangerous?

If this is loft and you know where the cables go, easy enough to pull them through the ceiling and run some t+e to the ceiling point. I’ve not done electrical for a few years, anyone know if you’re allowed to use screw type joint boxes in hidden areas? Under floorboards etc? Or is that not a...

    Solar panels and Space Heater

Yep, it was commissioned in 2019 I spoke to the sparks that installed it, he said the only way to get the house to have an export tariff is to have it decommissioned and then new kit reinstalled🤔 he was actually MCS certified but the builder wanted it cheap, so I can only get paid for the...

    Solar panels and Space Heater

Also I’d want it so that as the wattage drops it’ll still shove energy into the heater. Basically the more basic the better! Just a stat will do me with local isolation and obvs so it won’t pull anything from the grid

    Solar panels and Space Heater

Hi there, it’s a Solis 3600 mini 4G. On the roof there’s 4x panels of which there’s 2x dc cables going into the DC1 ports. Coming out of it there’s 2.5mm t+e into an isolator. Currently it’s showing 965w gen as it’s pretty sunny, just for me I’d rather that go into a heat source for the winter...

    Solar panels and Space Heater

Hello! I’ve a 1kw array installed and wanted to modify it to run a space heater in the winter, how could I go about it? My install wasn’t certified by the house builder so I can’t get a feed in tariff, which means bar running the fridge, I’m exporting free of charge to the national grid for them...

    Good PIR Light

Hi, I’m after a PIR light with good detection sensitivity and range. Location: will be sited centrally along the length of a 6 metre path and approx 3m from the ground. Will be fed from a weatherproof box on the wall. To be 100% I can chain some single PIR’s each end of the wall and feed a...

    Cooker pat test

obvs if the numbers are getting sharpie’d on, you only really need ‘200’ on there - save the ink.

    'Borrowed' Neutral in Grid switch

There is. It pokes out of the tarmac at the garage - so no real issue one end.. if it runs the full length of the cable will be a bit of a gamble! If the need arises I'll change it - getting back to the board is tricky as there's a cupboard, gas boiler and chipboard floor.

    'Borrowed' Neutral in Grid switch

Sadly, I've not wired anything for a while.. I wasn't intending using a grid - but my dual box exploded trying to put 20mm holes in.. The grid is technically redundant in the house (swapped for socket) as the kitchen units/wall measurements in the plan didn't allow for what's on the grid.. I...

    'Borrowed' Neutral in Grid switch

What would really make you laugh is the spur in the house is four feet away from the consumer unit!? I wouldn't of thought anyone would use 1.5mm as a supply to an outbuilding, but here we are! difficult to change as they then went and surfaced the drive. I did see one of the sparks 'He seemed...

    'Borrowed' Neutral in Grid switch

Hi, Fairly new! have a question if I may? New build house.. 1.5swa wired off ring main (13amp s/spur) to garage > terminates at 20amp DP switch in garage. garage has: lighting and power (interior/exterior light 1.0mm / 1x double socket.. actually wired in 2.5mm) After the 20amp DP - Can I...
