    Purchasing Solar Panels

Thanks Richard, yes the one you linked is cheaper at £239 but the 340W panel I was looking at is £249 so I thought it may be worth the extra tenner. It is free delivery Binky with no extra charge for pallet as far as I can see.

    Purchasing Solar Panels

Thanks for your reply Binky, I didn't find much on FB local to me. So I am thinking of this Solar Panel from Ebay or Amazon which includes free postage, quick delivery, good efficiency and six diodes. 340w Solar Panel Mono HUGE 20% Efficiency 168x100cm CraigSolar.co.uk Does this look to be a...

    Purchasing Solar Panels

Hello Guys, I have looked at the threads on here but could not find a specific answer to this. I am looking to buy a single 300W or 400W panel. There are so many producers, retailers, Ebay etc. I find it difficult to choose one. (physical size is not important) So I wondered is there a best...

    Small scale solar solution

Well done Leigh, sometimes it isn't just about money! If you have not got much to start with a small system to provide 12V lighting and equipment charging is a great idea with the impending power cuts (if the reports are to be believed).

Have I purchased the wrong batterry?

Problem solved :- The setting on my controller was still set for a Lead Acid battery (b1), so I changed it to Lithium Iron LiFePO4 (b3) and it instantly started charging from the panel. Should have re-read the controller instuction leaflet! but then I am an Engineer.

Have I purchased the wrong batterry?

My Lead Acid 100Ah battery (8 years old) was under performing and not holding it's charge from my solar setup so I bought a Lithium Iron LiFePO4 50Ah. At the same time I fitted a battery monitor and shunt. The monitor does not seem to be showing the battery charging. (Monitor from Ebay DC8-80V...

Solar and battery powered LED question

Thanks for that Geoff, Mis-typed calculation - Doh Makes sense to me now. I will allow 1A or 12W per 1M cut strip length to be on the safe side in my calculations. Cheers Mike

Solar and battery powered LED question

Thanks for your reply Geoff, Yes I understand that, but what I have found is when the full 5M strip is connected through my multimeter it shows 1.3A with the battery at 13.1V so doesn't that give me 17.03 Watts? the 1M strip shows 0.65A so is that 6.5 Watts? I cannot figure out why I am not...

Solar and battery powered LED question

    LED strip details/spec – 12V (300 LED’s code 5630), current 0-5A, power 60W (from Ebay add) I would guess there are 60 LED's in the 1 Metre strip.

Solar and battery powered LED question

Can anyone help explain this to me. Battery Voltage is 13.1V (measured with my Multimeter) there is nothing connected to the battery. When I measure the current in a 5M strip of LED's connected to the battery with my multimeter it shows 1.3A. When i cut the strip to 1M long and measure the...

    12V DC wire size question

Thanks for your reply Buspark, I don't have transformers, The 12V connection is direct from my Fuse board fed from my 12V solar battery. In my test with a 25M cable to a 1M length of LED strip there is no noticeable dimming of the LED's and only a small drop in voltage. However turning the...

    12V DC wire size question

Richard, I connected a short LED strip (probably around 1A) to my fuseboard (Voltage measured 12.6V at the fuse) and measured the voltage at the strip and it showed 11.1V on my multimeter. So exactly as you advised. Thanks for the advice. (y)

    12V DC wire size question

OK thanks Richard, I will do a trial connection of the LED strip on the 25M cable before I wire it in and also try an increase in the size of the conductor to see the effect.

    12V DC wire size question

I wish to install an LED light strip (1M). The run to it from from my Solar Control panel fuseboard is in the order of 25M. I am confused by the online table in which we enter current draw (say 7A), nominal voltage (12V), circuit length (25M) and conductor area (1.5mm2) - this gives an answer of...

    Small Controller issue

Thanks Richard, I have two small spare solar panels which I have just tested and they are OK. I will link them up in Parallel and try that. Shame about the big panel though - now it is a spare!

    Small Controller issue

New to the forum. I put together an experimental (to me) solar PV system to Power lighting under Kitchen Cabinets years ago. I got a panel, battery, controller from eBay all 12V except the panel which puts out around 36V. It has worked faultlessly for many years. in December it stopped working...
