    Aiko built in shade compensation

Well it's not clear what those DVM's are supposed to be displaying, if VOC fairly meaningless. In real life I have never seen a shading pattern starting in the middle, as you say it's more likely starting on an edge and increasing over a larger panel portion from the edge inwards. I could not...

    RFI From Inverter

In my last house I had severe interference knocking out my internet (ADSL), I searched for and found the culprit (a nearby commercial garage using Chinese electronic ballasts on workshop lighting). However the owner refused to do anything, BT/Openreach would do nothing, the ISP would do nothing...

    Questionable solar generation traces

TBH I think your choppy output is just atmospheric conditions, this is a plot from my system on a typical Lincolnshire day, one chop every 10 minutes is caused by a panel scan but the rest is just passing clouds & birds! Also using UV plots may be misleading as I believe typical solar panels...

    Roof hook spacing

So far about 6 years & still going strong. I had to stop chopping logs because of it but back to normal now with my favorite big axe. I reckon I put up with it getting worse for two years thinking if I rested it and tried just about every heat potion on it that it would get better. I was very...

    Roof hook spacing

I had the same problem and got a big shot of quartazone put in it at the local hospital, worked wonders and that was a few years ago! I only saw the needle afterwards (it went in from behind) otherwise I would have run a mile........

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

The result, the clamp screws are not long enough for two cables but they are M3 so easily rectified. Whatever the pro's n con's one hellava lot better than what was there before! And no I did not botch up the adjacent joist nor leave the bit of chopped off cable (the joys of living in a much...

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

What a stupid comment, if you have nothing sensible to contribute, don't post!

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

Thank you again everybody, because the MF connectors cannot guarantee to accommodate the cable size I am going to go with the 60A JB that has a capacity of 50mm2 per terminal and four screws per terminal together with strain reliefs. A substantial improvement over whats there and remember screws...

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

Ahh thank you Fleeting & Murdoch, it would be bad to spend the money on the connectors only to find they are NBG. No chance of replacing the cables, so need a bigger connector, any suggestions ? How about the Knightsbridge 60 amp JB, that has a terminal capacity of 25mm2 ?

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

Maybe that's because I don't have a van! I am not a tradesman, just a householder trying to sort out what I have been left with by assorted predecessors.

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

Seems like the solution is MF terminals & box but I have yet to find where I can buy then in low quantities.

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

Unfortunately Geoff this is in the ceiling above the kitchen so that option is out.

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

Thanks John, I have a horrible feeling the specified 5 * 6mm cables is not per terminal but the total for all terminals, here I need to get 3 * 6mm cables into each terminal.

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

Good evening everybody. I have a cooker feed from the CU that is then split under the floor above the kitchen to separate outlets for the hob & Oven. The problem is a standard 30A JB does not have big enough terminals to accommodate the wires. The person who installed this has cut some of the...

Buying 2nd hand PV panels...how do I test them?

With a multi-meter you can measure VOC & ISC BUT ISC measurements require a suitably rated meter (10A or above) AND extreme caution when making and breaking the circuit as it WILL ARC, fast and hard is the solution, no dainty tickling the connection! This is in relation to <300W 72 cell panels...

Can old style black & red pvc T&E be part of a part P compliant partial rewire ?

Thank you again everybody, I had thought somehow part P insisted a full re-wire was required. I have unearthed nearly all the rubber now and it forms the backbone of the ring that runs from the downstairs CU to an upstairs bedroom then out along a very long landing to the back of the house. Just...

Can old style black & red pvc T&E be part of a part P compliant partial rewire ?

It's really hard here to find anyone but I will keep trying. No testing done just observation, I had lifted the boards so the rubber/pvc was mostly visible. Thank you very much for your help it gives me heart that I don't have to destroy my house to fix the problem.

Can old style black & red pvc T&E be part of a part P compliant partial rewire ?

Thanks for the reply, reason for asking is the only contractor to visit so far seems to think a full rewire with ceilings and walls chased is essential.

Can old style black & red pvc T&E be part of a part P compliant partial rewire ?

Hello, some advice please.... I have a house that has been part re-wired in red & black T&E solid core cable (mostly 2.5mm) but has a large amount of rubber cable in both power & lighting circuits that I wish to have replaced. Can another partial rewire be done that just replaces the rubber and...
