I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

I agree and will probably call an electrician to sort this properly, thanks all for the advice.

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

Forget the blue. This was just needed for this specific smart switch and I added that one myself. The old dimmer had yellow+red in one terminal, and another single red (I assume this is the load) in another terminal. I did the same for the smart switch and it works. Then there is the...

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

The yellow cables is currently connected with 2 red cables in the block, not just one. I thought of doing what you said, but then I'm left with 2 loose red cables not connected anywhere which I have no clue where they go. And also, the dimmer switch has 2 more red cables. One must be the bulb...

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

Well, I don't think I'd have a problem if that block wasn't there tbh. I still can't understand why 5 red cables would need to be together.

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

Here are some extra pics. I do have a multimeter. I connected the new switch and works perfect. I'm just annoyed with how much it sticks out. I don't even have screws that long to fix it, so atm it's just hanging. Honestly I would like to understand what are all the cables because it's...

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

Not an expert, but other lights I connected had blue and brown. Plus I'm colorblind. :D And sockets too. Just not everything red. There's no way to know which cable comes from the bulb and which one doesn't. Anyway, I managed to connect the smart switch and is working perfect. Now I just...

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

60s. It most probably doesn't have an earth in the conduit. We even found one socket without an earth (luckily just one). I added it myself in the conduit before the plastering happened. It's the same with this switch. All other ones have earth, but this specific one had some messy work done...

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

The back box is attached to a conduit and I'm not handy enough to detach that. Plus, I don't have any tool for chasing. Plus with the cables there, not sure how to detach the box.

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

No there isn't in this specific box. Other switches around the house have it though, and are colour coded too.

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

Super useful, thanks. This back box is a mess, starting by not being colour coded and not having an earth. The previous owner surely messed with this I since I have no clue what's there, I'm pretty sure it could be cleaned up. But wanted to seek more advice.

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

I don't own a multi-tool and honestly don't want to spend any more money on it. Can you tell me what to do with the yellow wire though? With that I can at least proceed to connect the new switch and stop the old buzzing.

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

We just got the walls painted, so tbh there's no chance to do that at this point. As I said If I really cannot do anything else I will just 3D print a spacer large enough to allow it. But can't I just remove the choc block and leave the open cables taped independently? Also, what I'm really...

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

Yeah, I'm aware of them. But the smart switch doesn't have a standard face plate, hence 3D printing my own. And as I said too, a single of those still won't get me enough space. That joint is bulky, and the switch is too. Please help me with the questions.

I am replacing a dimmer with a smart one. Can I do some clean up in this back box?

This backbox in my lounge has an old dimmer switch with a metal plate. Since it has no earth I was recommended to replace it, plus I want to use smart switches all around anyway. I got my new smart switch (no neutral) but it's quite thick and there's a lot in this back box. This back box has...
