Thanks mate, I will take a close look...

    Flickering/dim light

Hi all, I’ve got a dawn to dusk light on the outside of our sauna which is either not coming on or is just very dim and flickering (at dusk). There isn’t anything wrong with the light itself as I’ve tested it on another circuit. I noticed that when I slowly screwed and unscrewed a bulb from...

    Help identifying earthing system

That SSEB sticker is dated March 1987! I was just 3 years old… Thanks again for such a comprehensive answer - really appreciated. I can’t for the life of me find this termination block. I take it as a given that many things aren’t done to the correct standards around here - have seen fair bit...

    Help identifying earthing system

Hey, many thanks for that! So I’ve attached a diagram of the pole and transformer (this is how it looks from what I can see, but could be inaccurate - I can’t see clearly how things are connected around that middle box for example). Regarding the cable - it enters the house underground (running...

    Help identifying earthing system

We have a manual transfer switch for the generator, the neutral runs straight into that…

    Help identifying earthing system

Yep, It is all a bit of a mess. How should it be connected? From the second pic in the original post you can see where the incoming cable from the transformer connects to the T+E - guessing the earth and neutral are bonded there?!

    Help identifying earthing system

Hi! There is an earth that runs from the top of the pole to the bottom, connecting to the chassis of the transformer on the way down. Doesn’t look to be connected to anything else. Live and neutral come out of transformer into cable which goes straight down pole and into the ground. I’ve...

    Help identifying earthing system

Hi everybody, I’m trying to work out what kind of earthing our house has. We live in Scotland in a house that’s for the most part very old, and relatively remote. We have dedicated overhead wires and transformer delivering to our house (see pic 1). It looks as if it’s just live and neutral...

Victron setup - wiring the AC

Thanks John. So the AC IN is bi directional! That actually makes a lot of sense with the ET112 meter. I came across this video on the various wiring options for the Multiplus II - it's worth watching, especially if anyone is thinking of getting a multiplus II: So I think my plan, for now...

Victron setup - wiring the AC

The schematic is a visual representation of what I can see, and I knocked it up quickly for reference. It may not be 100% accurate! The generator is a portable Hyundai 6000se, and it is grounded.

Victron setup - wiring the AC

Well, I’ve made the decision to do it! I knocked up a diagram of everything as it currently stands - attatched. Plan is to connect the Multiplus to only the house fuse board (we have another board for our annex and a few other consumer units for various outhouses etc, but the multiplus is...

Victron setup - wiring the AC

Thanks, always interesting to hear others experiences! Out of curiosity, what output is your Multiplus II? And I wholeheartedly agree - dealing with SP certainly isn’t easy!

Victron setup - wiring the AC

Thanks John, It does seem like a pretty easy job, and I’m confident that I could do it no problem. I’m happy wiring in new circuits - lights and sockets etc, and wouldn’t think twice about most things. it’s just that I’m going to be dealing with the main supply - not something I’ve ever touched...

Victron setup - wiring the AC

Hi people, I posted on here a good few months ago (see Solar Predicament) regarding advice around MCS and a 10kw ground mounted solar array I built (naively hoping a solar engineer would do the rest). Upshot is that because I built the array I could not get an MCS qualified installer to finish...

    Solar predicament

I'm not really fussed about charging batteries from grid at all, if that makes things simpler. Currently we have a small diesel generator hooked up to a manual transfer switch which we use during power cuts (we live out in the sticks). So my logic is why not have an automatic switch for solar...

    Solar predicament

So we have heard back from someone more senior, who seems to be saying the same thing, which is basically "computer says no". MCS is apparently the mark of a competent person these days. Screw them. Waste of my time. Now thinking of using a hybrid inverter like this as an ATS with solar...

    Solar predicament

Sent a final email, spelling out why (according to the MCS website itself and SPENs own guidelines) they shouldn't be able to deny me a connection! If I get the same response I've got the contact details of her superior, so I will do that before anything else.

    Solar predicament

We have already sent application and they have sent offer (to g100), but my MCS guy ******** off, probably because he realised he couldn’t certify the array. I’ve been in an excruciating back and forth with with the person responsible for our case at SPEN, who just keeps repeating that they...

    Solar predicament

Yeah, I think its down to the DNO. Others on here have also said no MCS required to connect/feed back to grid, so it must be the case in a lot of places, but apparently not here!

    Solar predicament

It's a good idea, but I still won't be able to G98 without MCS. According to SPEN they require MCS approval for any load connected to grid.
