Socket within 300mm of gas cooker

A pendant set does not fulfil the requirements of IPX4, so yes it does.

Socket within 300mm of gas cooker

You can't put a pendant inside the zones in a bathroom though can you.

Socket within 300mm of gas cooker

Well I suppose so, in the same sort of way a socket can be installed in a bathroom.

Socket within 300mm of gas cooker

Do what? Refuse to connect up a cooker? Of course they can, in the same way an electrician can refuse to fit a pendant in a bathroom (for example).

Socket within 300mm of gas cooker

Maybe not under BS7671 but the gas regs prohibit it, and it seems in the world of gas regs there's no such thing as a "guide" - it's black and white. If you had dual fuel provision in the cooker space, ie gas pipe, socket for ignition and a cooker outlet, then decided to change from electric to...

Storage Heater Doesn't Always Heat Up?

This was my thought as well. Sometimes meter fitters will take the off peak live out of the old meter and just leave it flapping about in the breeze. If this was the case all the storage heaters would be doing the same thing, ie only the boost element heating up.

Question on Aico smoke alarm [Ei146RC]

When you replaced the alarm did you replace the base as well or try to clip the connector straight onto the new alarm? Aico alarms need to be clipped firmly onto an Aico base to work properly - there should be a positive 'click' sound when they are on and you won't be able to remove it without...

    Overcharged by electrician

We could all sit here and say "£540 seems a bit steep" but that doesn't help anyone.   If your service contract is with British Gas then they should have been approached to fix the fault (which they were) then if your tenant wasn't happy with the work then British Gas should have been given the...

Novice! Help needed - light switch stopped working

If you haven't altered anything in the switch which is now not working but it was working before then the problem probably isn't there.   The switch will be getting it's power from somewhere, ie another switch, so it stands to reason that the problem would be at that switch.

Novice! Help needed - light switch stopped working

Chances are one of the connections is loose.  I'd turn the power off and check them.

    IP44 pendant or similar

Remember most low energy bulbs are unsuitable for using in this way - you'd probably need a rough service tungsten filament bulb.

    Happy Steve saying hello

Yes, on my favoured forum it's very politely made clear to DIYers that it's a professional forum and suggested that they should get someone in to do the work and we can't really give advice, and then those who are clearly 5WWs (chancers) are given short shrift. I've mostly done commercial work...

    Happy Steve saying hello

I've looked in on the Screwfix forum which may be where I've seen your username.  I decided that wasn't the forum for me so i don't think I even registered. I haven't got into a "slanging match" on this forum, but as with many others there are members who see these forums as a showcase for...

    Happy Steve saying hello

I've been on a few electrical forums binky, in fact I recognise your username from another or others, not sure if it was you or just a coincidence. My point was that this forum doesn't seem any "friendlier" than others; the "friendliest" electrical forum I've found might also happen to be one...

    Apollo Lighting

Thanks for your help so far with this.   I've got some quotes in front of me; Edmundson's price for Apollo equivalents is still coming out at over £80 per fitting which isn't much different. Can anyone recommend a 4000k LED circular asymmetric wall washer with matching downlighters in the same...
