Ok guys, customer wants two way dimming on his stairs. Only 2 points of light, 1 up, 1 down.

Are 250 watt switches sufficient or do you guys always fit 400w as a matter of course?

Cheers

Bez

What lamps is the customer using? If it's normal GLS the 250w dimmer should be sufficient, if he's using CFLs (standard low energy lamps) you could have problems, normal dimmers & inductive loads don't get on too well...

Sorry, should have mentioned lamps, yes normal bulbs.

Have just happened accross some dimmers in my catalogue and they're measured in VA. I take it that is the same as Watts

VA is close to watts, just multiply volts by amps as VA suggests. For an AC circuit watts is actually voltage x current x power factor.

Why would you have dimmers on a stairs.? Thought you would like stairs to be well lit... well I do anyway .
