30 mA rcd protecting the main feed

good evening ,

went to a friend who lost his supply,and didn't know what to do, when I got there I found that after the main fuse there's a 30 mA rcd before the feed to the CU which in a garage about 5 metres away.

managed to identify that the kettle was causing the trip.

how do you go about removing the rcd from the feed, it is a rented property.?

+1 why do you want to remove it. Are there rcds in the board in garage? Cheers

No ,the CU has no rcds and any fault takes takes all the electrics out. so bad design.

if the rcds needed ,which it porbably is for a couple if not all circuits (ie tt system) then it'll have to be a new con unit with either 2 rcds to minimise all power being lost or con unit with all rcbos (more expensive way)

the problem is they need to clear that with the landlord who's quite tight.

you cant just take it out its there for a reason, if he wont pay for it to be split over 2 or more rcds/rcbos then it'll probably have to stay.

Is this a TT?

You'd need to change to a dual RCD board, IMO.

Why doesn't your mate ask the Landlord for a copy of the current PIR for the property? He's entitled to do so.

Not that it'd make that much difference, one RCD as main switch would only get a '4' anyway.
