Hi all

i was in ireland last week wiring up my sisters mansion and though they do things differently out there, that is not the question........

as a sparkie of irish descent and a very regular visitor across the sea i have a question to which i think i have the answer already....

when sailing into dublin or holyhead there are bobbing/ floating buoys... these are lit green and red down each side. how are they lit? surely it cant be a cable, if it was how would you test it and the connection must be forever severing due to the wave/tide movements

you see, it is a stupid questionGuinness

best wishes, alan

ta for the replies......

however, when i was a child many years ago (like 40!) these puppies were illuminated so it has to be cabling........

also they flash on and off like light bulbs, unlike passats etc, whose led indicators mesmerise meApplaud Smiley

SL did say used to be gas :)

As others have said..

Used to be gas, then battery and now solar/battery

I suppose they could use something similar to the battery watches that you can buy which don't need replacement batteries - using the up/down movement to operate a dynamo??

I like the old theory of the mermaids who dive deep just before sunset, and collect little algae like creatures that light up at night.

They use to place these around rocks to warn of danger, hence the first light houses were used.

Now you have all spoiled my fantasy.
