2 single core cables having a resistance of 1.2 ohms and 0.16, are connected in parrallel and are used to carry atotal current of 30A. Calculate (A) volt drop on the cables, (B) the actual current carried by each cable.

Firstly the actual resistance is:

1.2 x 0.16 / 1.2 + 0.16 = 0.1411764 ohms

So @ 30A Vdrop is 30 x 0.1411764 = 4.235292V (use this voltage divided by each of the resistors to find the current flowing through each one)

First cable 1.2 ohms carries 3.52941A, the second cable carries 26.470575A approx

Which when added together give 29.999985A
