In the office again.
If you are.....................

HOW????

Downloaded the demo (which apparently works with win 8)

run it.

got past security telling me it doesn`t want to run it, and told it to run it anyway.............

Then it vanishes into the ether- never to reappear.

Machine doesn`t crash or anything - just seems to forget its supposed to be installing summat!!!!

All ideas welcome ( n.b. Paddler - I can`t afford a mac)

Doesn't Win 8 have some kind of backward compatibility mode where you can execute applications in a Win 7 environment. I know Win7 had this to allow applications that were written for XP to run.

Nah - its going back where it came from

COS I`ve bloomin` well had enough!

I thought, in my limited wisdom, that a restart might help the situation....................so I finally found the "power" controls, and asked it to restart.  For info, this was at 8.10 p.m. last night

Its STILL doing its little "magic roundabout" thing - with the word "restarting" on the screen.

At least, there was earlier - now it hasn`t got any display at all. Think a "forced" shutdown is in order.

I wonder what will happen now?

@steve.: ?Eh?

Update.

Apparently, I CAN`T take it back....because?

"I`ve opened it".

It must be unused and unopened, apparently.......................And the duty manager "wasn`t available" :(

So Mr. KME is very F`in peeved right now - I`m gathering my lines, ready for a call with head office in the morning.

Only had it 6 flamin days - How can I tell if its any good unless I open it?, FCOL!!!!!

Not a happy bunny.

Oh, yes. The "funny" bit. Quote from pimply-faced youth behind the counter:

"If you`re having problems installing the software, you can bring the machine in here, and we`ll do it for you"!!!

How I didn`t explode........or burst out laughing. :slap

Do they really think that is a feasible solution? Ballcocks.

If When I get `em to take it back, I`ll get the NAS Raid unit, dump all the stuff from the old lappie over there, and see how that works - maybe a HD that isn`t 96% full will help things along a bit.

(Still annoyed though!)

Are you using the Metro Ui or the desktop, like previous versions.

If you install from desktop then right click icon, properties, then tick Run as Administrator.

I know the "run as admin" bit of the post..........................

As for the rest of it? I don`t understand the question? Is it a question?

I think I`m getting daft in my old age - I used to understand these things - now I don`t seem to have a scooby-doo :(

Went into email from both places - ended up mainly using the "desktop", as it seemed easier to get into as admin........

all it said is it either couldn`t find my email address; or it wanted a security certificate to be installed - but not what,, or from where.

Did a google search for that problem; found someone talking about a similar issue - but cannot find the files they refer to.

( at the mo., the "thing" is in its box, in disgrace in a corner - hopefully, they`ll agree to take it back, and I can try something more suitable.

Hello,

You are probably aware of this:

Make your backup discs ASAP.

Recovery of a crashed windows 8 machine is almost impossible with the registration code being burnt into the Bios / Motherboard, swapping software between machines is a non-starter.

It then becomes an expensive door stop.

Well the key is in the Bios that could be better than trying to find it. Only an issue if you fit new motherboard, then a call or email to MS will sort it or use the key they sent you which you saved or wrote down.
