I need some advice regarding a back box issue.

I am completing some work and the screw lug has snapped right off and the box is plastered and tiled in.

today i tried to tap a new extention lug in, but did not work... any other ideas?

Can you drill a hole through the back of the back box, tap that and use a crazy long screw to secure the front plate?

Oh, sorry, I didn't know exactly what an extention lug was and I got the wrong end of the stick. Gaffa tape??

What Wonder Woman said should have worked TBH . Can only think of three solutions ,

(1) Drill & tap back of the box as WW says.

(2) Find another KO box , remove the adjustable lug , drill hole in the long side, drill for a self tapper in side of box and fix it that way.

(3) Replace box .

I have done this before and it works, just hard to explain.

get a fresh adjustable lug, bend both 'wings' outward and hacksaw a grove in them. Put the screw through the front plate and screw onto the lug, then locate that in the 2 holes left by the knackered tabs in the back box, pull back and screw it in.

Try taking a drywall box, remove the lugs that stick out and hold the box into the drywall, glue into the box.....works well when the lugs have been cross threaded too often and screws won't tighten

drill a 5.5mm hole in the back box inline with were the lug was then drill deeper with a masonary bit, fit a red raw plug then use exstension srews 75mm long done this loads of times and works a treat

I've collected a few loose adjustable lugs for this. I clean up the side where replacement is required with emery or glass paper. Do the same with the new lug. Clean up with a solvent to remove grease residues (meths, white spirit or similar). Adhere the new lug into place with car body filler.

You could combine this with Sellers idea for a rock solid solution.

Done it that way myself, it can be a bit fiddly but it works and gets you out of a scrape..

I think the problem of extension screw breaking off would be the other screw was to long for the job. I would just drill a hole in the back box and tap it out but just ensure screw is right length.

Well I would just put the one working screw in the accessory..

leave the other end floating free..

take me money..

and run...

Load'sa DIY-Bob's and Captain Cowboys do it this way no worries!!!!!!!!!!!!!
