Im trying to ask for assistance with a bathroom pull switch wiring but it wont let me post images ?

How am I meant to ask for help if I cant show you what the problem is ?

Is this normal ?

Thanks

its a spam filter,

it wont let you post images or links until you have 10 posts,

but rather than post endless drivel try to PM a mod or else wait til they see your post and they will change it for you.

Don't just post for the sake of it.

Start by trying to actually describe in words what the problem is with your switch.

On the other hand then how much would I expect to pay to have a proper electrician to come do this for me .

Installing a new bathroom and redecorating hence the new switch .

You still have not said what your problem is or what you want done?

I might charge as little as £25 to replace a faulty pull cord switch if it was very close to home, anything upwards from there.

it depends where you live,

if you live at number 48 [the lady with the huny sister :D   ]  I'd do it for free if she is there, if your at 26 on the other hand, I'll do it before I go to work tomorrow for 15£ and a bacon butty,  :)

I'll try and describe in words ...

My current switch has 3 (Three) RED wires going into one hole and a RED wire and looks like a YELLOW wire going into another .

I cant tell if its just all Yellow or if its a Yellow and Green ....I think its all Yellow

My new switch has COM-L and L1 and L2 connections as well as the brass earth one ...

I'll need to pull it out further tomorrow to check if its Yellow or Yellow and Green .

Hope this makes sense .

If you are thinking of changing the switch yourself, take a photo, or several photos BEFORE you remove any wires from the switch.

In the case where there are several red wires for instance, label EACH wire individually, then make a note of which terminal it was connected into.

Then you can always get back to where you were.

Time and time again we get people saying "I've taken a switch off, now I have three red and two black wires, which one goes where"  But it's never that simple as there are many ways of wiring lighting circuits so it can be impossible to answer that question without doing some testing.

Hope this helps ...

Sorry I had all this in the first post which it wouldn't let me post .
Its a single light in a bathroom with a fan that comes on and runs for a few minutes afterwards .... however I believe its a humidistat so it can come on and off its self wether the lights on or not because of steam from shower etc .

Now I've seen the photo, just label those wiires. It's important that the three in the  left hand terminal all stay together into the same terminal on the new switch. Put those 3 in the COM terminal.  The other two, the red and the yellow must again stay together and can go into either of the other 2 terminals, whichever one is most convenient for them to reach.

That's not my favourite type of pull switch, it can be a bit fiddly dressing the wires into the terminals, and the cable knock outs are somewhat on the small side to get 2 cables through.

Which connection do they go into ie COM-L or L1 or L2 or does it not matter .... and the other wires ?

Ok thanks for the advice ... much appreciated .

Find yourself a permanent marker pen and mark a line on the 3 red cables, ( that way you will always be able to identify them)they will all go into the C- common of your new switch....the red& yellow can be connected to either l1 or l2 terminal, the switch will work no matter which is used. Turn electric off first obviously!
