The situation I have is a local pikey problem with sheds, garages and cars being broken into. Local police a waste of space, just saying "improve the security" which is tbh fair enough. Anyway at the moment there is no mains power to the gate at the bottom of the drive. Actually, there's no gates at the mo, just the posts! There will be eventually but it's a job for the spring and a mechanical digger etc.

Short term I was thinking an IR break beam set up maybe based on this kit which I already have built (originally used to scare a local tom cat that was coming in through the cat flap at night).

Thinking to replace the buzzer with a relay and link to an RF transmitter, this one:

And a matching receiver in the house, this one:

The beam kit and transmitter fitted in camouflaged IP rated plastic boxes & powered off of 9V rechargeables changed daily or whatever.
