Bill Maclaren dies aged 86 - sad, sad News...

... My all time Favourite, Gentleman and Ex Rugby Commentator Mr Bill Maclaren has died aged 86 (19th January 2010).

He was a great commentator, and I must say that it was only Mr Maclaren that I really enjoyed listening too, as a Rugby Commentator. He was one of the only Commentators that didn't love the sound of his own voice.

After 50 years of being behind the microphone, Bill gained the respectful name of Bill McLaren 'the voice of rugby' I was gutted when Mr Bill Maclaren announced that he was to retire from Rugby Commentary in 2002.

One of the old style commentators who didn't force his own opinions or views on his audience. Sadly people like him don't exist anymore in a celebrity, style over substance television world.

Sadly the voice of the 6 Nations has gone - but will not be forgotten. A sad time for Rugby Union. (Even though he was a sweaty lol) RIP Bill
