Got a conny to 1st fix , the customer want brick light around the out side of the dwarf wall , now am not sure how they fit in , i thought they should be put in as the brickwork was going up , but its too late for that as the base is done .

the plan was to drill the bricks out were required and wire from inside before it get plastered ... any of you lads fitted these lights , how do they hold in place when i remove a full brick ? any advice appreciated

Cheers

Ste

Did some on a conservatory but the builder supplied them so can't give you a make, plenty around though. These replaced a brick with a fixing through the ends, I wired them in the cavity of dwarf wall along with the power.

These have a back case which you set in the wall with morter or sillicone and the front face scews on to this with a rubber seal around the edge.. I got some from Screwfix and can recommend them...

I have fitted some and though they look good they are a nightmare.

I would reccomend that you silicone the cable entries because the ones I took out to replace where all full of water.

The cable was looped in and out and was allready in situ when the wall was built.

You ran your power (skt) and brick light feeds in the cavity ? was thinking of doing this myself rather capping to the wall before it gets boarded and skimmed, would be a lot faster .

dont forget cavity will most likely be filled with insulation (even if its not now, it will be) and cables will need to be derated

I don't think you should run wires in a cavity, it is not a wiring reg but is a building reg the only wires they will allow are the tails. if you do decide to do this you will need to make sure that the cables do not bridge the cavity especially on brickwork

If you can get in early enough and cap the cables to the inside skin then this should comply with part c should it not?

Ian.
