Broadband. What Is It With Friday Afternoons?

Normal slow broadband from BT (long way from the exchange)

Usually it's not too bad, though never fast.

But very often on a Friday afternoon, the connection will drop and the router will have to re sync. this can happen every few minutes making it almost unusable.

It happens time and time again about this time on a Friday afternoon.

Some form of maintenance at the exchange? shutting sown and re booting the servers or what?

the regularity of Friday afternoon disconnections is just too much to be a coincidence.

The speed we get sometimes you might think we are on dial up.

Whoever said broad band was "always on" is either lieing or a complete optimist.

I can understand contention resulting in the connection pausing for a while (we get plenty of that, but without the router dropping out). That we just have to accept as "normal" but what I am talking about is almost every Friday afternoon, the router loses it's ADSL signal for a short while and has to re boot and re sync.

Something at the exchange is knackered and when it gets lots of connections (all off on fridays as above) it starts to get flakey

Contention slows things down as far as i know rather than pausing, pausing is something steps does when drinking or watching porn :slap

I always asssume it extra traffic on the system.     Remember I know sod all,  but as said , everyone finishes work early on Fridays , or kids are doing their homework , downloading games or Twitterfacing !

My theory is that one day ...when we are all totally dependant on tinternet....the whole thing will implode or be brought down by the loonies.

i think your the only loonie with enough computer knowledge to do that... dont drag the rest of us into it!

The idea we should be watching television over the internet to me just seems bonkers and is overloading a system with masses of data it was never designed for.

+1. same with radio - listen online etc, may be useful to someone with no radio signal, but otherwise just stick with a normal radio...

I had a listen to a talk show in america , Tennessee I think ,  amazed them by sending an email when they asked about something .
