Burying Sky cable in garden

I want to bury cable from sky dish to box. I think its called hdmi cable, but in any case its the standard stuff used by sky - black in two cores .It's got to go a long way but loss isn't an

issue, nor is depth . I can work that stuff out, but I can't find anything on the Internet as to whether the stuff is fit to bury.ie durable and weatherproof enough not to deteriorate immediately when buried in earth. Sky don't seem to know either.

It says it's "fully weatherproof  " but that's not quite the same is it ?

Its not intended as permanent so I don't expect it to last years, but can anyone tell me whether I can just bury it directly. It's impractical to trunk it in any way for reasons I shan't bore you with, but if any one can advise me I'd be very grateful.

stick it in some green ducting / flexi conduit, It's what I see strewn across people's front gardens and nailed over doorways.

Alternatively you could use some hosepipe? 

assuming what you have  is sky hd satellite shotgun cable....

Just watch how deep you bury it so that it's not too easy to damage!

Yes that's exactly the cable.

I've got white plastic conduit which I bought for the job, but unfortunately the sky guy has stapled it in place at different points and whilst I know anythings possible if we're prepared to stand the pain, it'd be a nightmare to get up a ladder and uncouple it from under the roof eves , not to mention that I'd at this point have to pull the telephone and Ethernet cables out too in order to get at it.

Thats why I asked whether I could just bury it directly in soft earth. I know it'd be better to duct it in some way but could I get away with burying it "naked" for the time being ?

I'd say no,

as much as its 'weatherproof' , I'd think that to bury it direct it wouldnt take long for water to penetrate into it and destroy it,

not ideal, but, couldnt you cut the cable and put a join in it?

What about suspending it overhead? You could use sky hooks. Available in all good electrical wholesalers - just ask at the counter.

You  can bury it direct we used to do it at VM,but there is always the danger of the outer getting penetrated so you'd have to bury it in soft sand

I know its been a few days but I'd have said - Pragmatically - bury it this time and see . .   If (When) it fails (watch out for break up and /or missing channels) you can more easily put the replacement in solid Conduit and bury it a 'fork deep).  Sky installers run it around in rain water gutters so if undamaged it will likely last a year or two

Its best to run cables that are buried in comduit or ducting so that water cannot get into the wiring and damge it
