i got a question in an exam and i don`t know if i got it right.

the effect of a temperature rise on a copper busbar will cause the busbar dimensions to ?

stay the same

increase

decrease

one dimension to decrease

is the red one right.thanks for reeding and your help.cheers

Technically expands but at standard operating temperatures unlikely to be even measurable!

So you could argue that strictly it get's bigger but if you can't (realistically) measure it then does it stay the same? ;)

mmm

Don't all metals expand when heated up?

In fact dont plastics expand as well? :|

are there any metals that DON'T expand?? ?:|

Or did I miss somthing in my days at school.... :| :pBlushingGuiness Drink

No, you're dead right, there are materials with a negative coefficient of expansion.

However a plastic busbar is about as much use as a chocolate teapot ]:) ] :)

So are you saying that if the metal heats up and expands the plastic (or metal) CU heats up at the same rate and all the bits continue to fit together ;)

So relative to the CU its the same size..........

Chocolate teapots? ?:|

do they expand...... :p

or just melt!Blushing:O] :)

both?

(incidentally a chocolate teapot could be used for a number of things such as pacifying a pre-menstral woman or serving iced tea!)

:D

NO,

all metals heat up at different speeds, hence the way thermostats work.

tho afaik all metals heat up and expand to a different degree or more.

bet this wont make sense to anyone but me......

Indeed..

Bring on the Bi-Metalic Strip... :D

How the heck did a thread about Copper Bus-Bars expanding...

get onto "pacifying a pre-menstral woman" ?????? :|

If we were playing "just-a-minute"...

I would buzz my buzzer and get Mr Parsons to give me a point and the subject for deviation.!! :p :^O:^O

The important thing is that the OP's question was answered before the thread decended. That's not always the case. :D

You can have your point if you want it. Applaud SmileyI have no idea what 'Just-a-minutes' is or was :|

Me gf makes me watch Hollyoaks @ 6.30! Wouldn't be allowed the radio on :_|
You need some more sockets fitted m8,

so you can plug two things in together!!!

I reckon theres a few electricians who could fit one for you!!!! :^O :^O:^O:^O

I'll have a go myself. I have a spare Dbl socket front and a roll of insulating tape. Will this bell wire do, just to run a radio?
