Yep! Do it all in radials..... In the kitchen just stick in a radial for each item that has a heating element (washing machine, tumbler drier, dishwasher) and stick a seperate one in for sockets/fridge/freezer.

stick in 4mm

the trouble with radials for everything you will need a big fuse board what you will save in cable size will cost you more in labour plus mcb's

Anyone seen any derating factors for rings ie does 32A ring still need 2.5mm or should we be using 4mm??? (Or have I not been reading the regs closely enough)

Kitchen radial bad idea ?:| - if all heavy appliances are in this area eg tumbledryer, washing machine, dishwasher etc, then turning on the kettle can easily overload 20A MCB. I have this problem at home due to broken neutral buried deep in wall behind tiles (it wasn't me and I will get round to it one day:D). Its very irritating :(

i think you will find most domestic sparks won't even think about derating factors - don't all attack me at once! Lol

Most will simply chuck in 2.5 for the rings, and 1.0/1.5 for the lights - without even thinking - end of!

D.

Ps - the above statement does not apply to most the sparks on here ;)

I have not thought of derating factors but have not used 1.0mm on lighting for years. I tend to put plenty of circuits in that way they won't get overloaded.

In a typical domestic installation, your comments are perfectly valid..

Radials up and down, and rings on a 32A in the kitchen and utility room. :)

The only thing I would add is that cable is due to keep falling in price due to the price of metals including copper at a low at the moment.

On my local news this morning, Tesco are feeling the pinch too. sales @ 2% now compared to the 4% for the last quarter.

Also, "The Severn Bridge" have not passed on the VAT saving.

For years I was using that bridge (first, the old one and then the new, when that opened) BUT being a French company, they never paid Tax.

Paying the French to visit the Welsh from England - sounds like a f****, oh sorry it is :^O :^O:^O

What u need is a motorbike as we dont pay to use the bridge , i dont know why we arent charged but i'm not complaining ...... Applaud Smiley
