I am trying to build an illuminator for optical experiments using the monochromatic light from sodium lamp. It has to be the older low-pressure streetlamp type, because the modern relpacements are high pressure lamps give out a broad range of wavelengths in addition to the pure yellow sodium emission. I bought one of these lamps ( SOX-E 18w with UK bayonet fitting) new for £70 from BLT Direct, who advertize them as a standard catalogue item, but the choke and capacitor seems to be not available now from Philips or anywhere else. There is a six-year-old YouTube video showing how to connect these lamps for running on UK mains voltage, but the video resolution is not good enough to read the writing on the choke and capacitor or even the manufacturer's logo. Can anyone point me to a supplier that still has the electrical components needed to run my lamp?
