Been doing electrics for a while now but recently been asked to install a network. I've seen hubs & switches & routers & CAT5/6 but I'm not 100% sure how to install it & I'd like to learn.

I know that cables should run from a designated point out to where the PC's are located like a star formation.

The designated point has the incoming internet connection & phone. Do you have to run CAT5 & phone cables out to the pc locations ?

Where does the incoming internet connection plug into ? Does it plug into a router & then all the outputs on the router go to the pc's ?

Some simple explanation would help

Cheers;)

Honestly that is the same relativity as saying

"I have have installed a fused spur and read the regulations, now can anyone tell me how to do this re-wire"

Yes, there are not complex to install at all, you could probably achieve a working end result but there is so much involved in networking and distribution of data that you would be in serious difficulties if things went wrong with the design implementation.

It really is specialised unless you are working to a designers installation, you wil open yourself up for ridicule by every person who ever touches your network in the future!

All done & dusted mate & got the cash in the bank. Your nearly a month too late ;)

never looked at the date sorry!

Congratulates, with the first under the belt 90% of the technical installation stuf is sorted.

Just like I said though be careful when or if you install large systems.

The structured cabling and positioning of hubs, routers and other devices requires a great deal of planning. If the customers IT team tell you what they want then its a doddle and better still their problem if the design has bottlenecks
