The easiest solution is to do the minimum that you can afford, maybe collect rubbish once a month or the like, it'll then make news and the government will want to be seen as doing something so will magic more money out of their treasury hat! Seems to work for all other emergency funding issues.

Thats the Big society plan, slash budgets and get some charitable organisation to step in to fill the gaps. Our work is increasing and we will get bigger and bigger due to cuts here and cuts there.

Ive had enough, seen too much now & just want a normal job.

Local councils are hugely inefficient will do them some good to shed some weight but it looks more like they are trying to pave the way for privatisation.

:(

If they are inefficient it is mostly due to legislation - you think your paperwork is bad, these poor sods have to comply with all sorts of European lettuced to boot!

All i am saying is;

1, You will ALL be old one day. Who you think is going to pay for your care?? Think you will be in a nice properly run care home with qualfied staff?? Ha Ha dream on!!!

2, What if you become ill now with some sort of long term care needs.. Who you think will pay for that?? [and it will not be the NHS]

The clever ones are all saying; "should have taken out medical insurance" Yes?? that might pay for medical care, but what if you end up like Michael Schumacher.. Think they will help you then??

Ok, what about something you could not insure against if you wanted to......

3, What if you have a kid that is disabled and needs help and support, or help to be in a "mainstream" school?? Who you think will pay for that????? What if said kid needs to go to a "special" school??

Not so smart now eh!!!!!!!!

Ok, so you have done well and paid off you mortgage etc. A customer decides not to pay, or there is some kind of threat to your home. Guess what. Because you have paid off your mortgage, you are now NOT ELIGIBLE for legal aid!!!!! Who you going to take to court now then?? Better hope you do not lose!!!!!

The local authority does a lot more than empty bins etc.....

The government have destroyed ALL help for ill and old people, but you would not know that, as they have not voted on it in parliament, or changed any laws, just stopped funding local authorities. Cameron the p******, has just approved an extra £9,000,000 for HIS constituency so as to try to avoid looking a **** and losing his own seat!!! Has not stopped his mum and aunty protesting against him though!!!

john....

Scottish politics is interesting.

The Scottish government "ordered" councils to freeze the council tax something like 9 years ago.  This year Moray council was all set to break that "ban" until it became clear they would be totally crippled by the Scottish Governemnt if they did, so they backed down.

Scotland is proposing to replace the council tax with somththing else, they still havem't told us what.  Why do I get the feeling that whatever it is will cost me more?  Just like the council tax cost me more than the poll tax that it replaced, and that cost more than the old rates that it replaced.

As oposed to who?  Ed Milliband & Ed Balls????

You and I and many others on here are hard working small business owners. What 'outsoursing' actually means is that local services will be taken over by big business. You and I know for a fact they can't organise a pee up in a brewery either, plus the government won't let them fail, so they will in fact cost more money and delivery a worse service. Then, to add insult to injury, they will use tax loopholes to offshore the profits and avoid paying tax in the UK. So this will result in more money being drained from the UK economy. Local councils are manned by local people who (mostly) give a **** about the locality they are in. They pay tax in the UK, and do their best to work within tight financial constraints to deliver services. Oddly enough they have centuries of experience in doing this and are better at it and cheaper than corporations trying to do the same thing with limited experience. Even if they don't always get it right, the money stays in the UK - that's your taxes being used in the UK for the benefit of the UK population and not building mansions in the Seychelles / tax haven of your choice.
